This is my first New Year's, so I thought I would join everyone else and make some resolutions for myself:
1. I will come when my name is called.
2. I will sit even if mom doesn't have a treat in hand.
3. I will refrain from biting the doberman's ears.
4. I won't bark at the deaf dog, waiting for a reaction.
5. I won't steal bottles that the humans put on the counters.
6. I won't step on the pomeranian.
7. I won't eat cat poop.
8. I won't chew every object within standing reach.
9. I will stay out of the garbage when the humans aren't looking.
10. I will not greet the humans with a standing hug when I've just come in with mud on my curly-haired feet.

Who am I kidding? I've already broken them all! Happy 2013!

My brother Zane has been gone for a whole week. I haven't had anyone to play with, Monty is too old and Foxie is too little. Monty says Zane is in the hospital, the same place I went when I went to sleep and woke up and my stomach hurt a couple months ago. Spay is the word I think mom used. Anyways, I have no one to play with. No ear nubs to bite, nobody to jump on or trip up, no one to play bite. It's been boring. I've taken it upon myself to find other outlets of self expression. I've been getting things off the shelves and chewing them apart. I've found garbage and ripped it open. Mom doesn't see the joy in my energy outlets. Monty tells me to knock it off. He says mom doesn't need this right now because she is sad about Zane. How does mom not need me? I am the key to mom's universe, he should know this. Am I the only one here who's got this figured out? I don't have time for this, I'm gonna go unravel that spool of ribbon.

My friends, my life has taken a dramatic turn since I last penned my diary. First, I officially have a hairdresser. Mom says I'm too big and wiggly to let her continue on with shaving. My new beautician is very nice, and likes to talk to me. She has a grey tabby cat that sleeps on the counter, a shih tzu, and a pug. She made me feel very comfortable, and gave me a red bow for my hair. My ears were a little uncomfortable, she plucked them! I'm still at a loss over this, I mean, she PLUCKED my ears. Second, mom took me to the clinic and said I was getting spayed. I don't know what that meant, but I went to sleep and woke up dizzy. Mom was there, but the room was spinning, and then my stomach hurt. I've been taking it easy, and sleeping next to mom every night. I had to wear a tshirt, too. My mom chose to keep my blind eye and not remove it. She says my eye makes me Bridgit. She says that she proudly owns the only blue-eyed poodle in the world. Mom loves me alot, and has been giving me tons of kisses. I love that.

My mom told me I'm 5 months old. She has been talking very direct to me, I don't understand why. She has been telling me, "Down." I don't really know what she's talking about. She keeps pushing me off of her, and I really want to get close to her. Lately she has been shouting, "Sit." She pushes on my back really hard. It makes me think she wants to play, so I jump up on her. She doesn't act like she's having fun, so I pounce on her feet. "Sit!" she shouts. Again, she pushes on my back. I decide that it's more fun to jump on Zane. He plays back. Mom seems upset and walks away. Later, I wonder into mom's room. She calls my name. I mouth her arm. She says, "sit." She pushes my back down. My whole body goes limp and I turn over with 4 legs up. I mouth her arm. She snaps her fingers. I stand up. "Sit." She pushes. I mouth her arm and slide upside down again. This scenario continued for a while. She relented, but why? I thought it was a great game. I don't know what "sit" means, but mom's arm tastes good.

I heard my mom compare me to someone named Dennis the Menace. "Just like Dennis, she means to do well, but ends up with a disaster," Mom chuckled. I cocked my head to one side, concentrating on what was being said, but not completely understanding anything except my name. Well, this morning, I couldn't contain myself. Mom's bedroom door got opened and I bolted down the hall and jumped on her bed with unbridled joy! Apparently, there was a coffee cup that did indeed have some coffee in it. I jumped and my foot landed exactly in the cup. I was unaware of how high coffee could actually splash, but I can honestly say it can go pretty far. It can also have a relatively large radious when landing. I thought I might be in trouble when I saw the speed at which Mom rose out of bed. Arms extended out, she simply said, "Well, I guess it's time for a shower." I don't know about Dennis the Menace, but I do know my Mom loves me. She's the greatest.

Mom woke up this morning and found that my good friends, Teddy and Casey, left me a rosette. A big beautiful butterfly is on my page. It really made mom feel good because Teddy and Casey shared their support about my blind eye. Mom has really been worrying about my eye this last week. I'm getting older and the vet wants to remove it when I get spayed, so that I won't have to go through 2 surgeries. She wants to spay me when I'm six months old and mom is VERY worried about my eye. Teddy's family may have to go through the same ordeal. I just want Teddy and Casey to know how much their support, and butterfly gift, means to mom. Thank you for your kindness. I will keep you posted.

I'm still on touchy terms with Monty and Foxie. They growl at me alot, actually all the time. I just can't seem to win them over. Mom has been acting strange lately. When I pee outside, she jumps and claps and gets me all excited. But she doesn't act the same way in the house. She wants me to pee on these white squares. Sometimes I do, and sometimes I miss, but I get close. She tells me that I'm really smart, and it makes me feel good. The one thing that has really made me happy is that dad made me my own toy box. I get to have all my toys together in one place. If I want to play, I know where to go. The other dogs don't have one. This box is the greatest thing ever. I am so happy.

I am really attached to my mom. I'm putting the haircut fiasco behind us, besides I feel better anyways. She came home from work and fed us. I now fully recognize the small yellow bag as mine, and I vocalize to let it known that I am aware of what is transpiring. As I was eating, mom poked me in the shoulder with a shot. The food kept me focused all the while. She said it was my third shot, but I don't remember the first two. I won't remember this after a good romp outside with Zane, yet I am really tired. I just want to sleep on mom's lap. One more shot next month. Not looking forward to it, but it was remarkably easier than the haircut. The haircut will never be forgotten...never. I love you anyway, mom.

Well, I'd like to tell you that my first haircut went off with a hitch. "Oh, easy as pie," I might say if I was bold enough to commit a white lie. The electic clippers were absolutely terrifying! The howling sound and horrible vibrations...what did mom expect me to think? I scratched and yelped, but mom was relentless, she told me I had no choice because I am a poodle. She shaved my body, but I fear she will try again on my face today. She had hair everywhere, even tickling her nose, so she stopped, a bit defeated. My ears are fluffy, but its only a matter of time, along with my legs. This is my fate. I am a poodle, she said.

The sun is so bight today! I just have the urge to run at random until my little legs won't carry me anymore. My hair is growing out of control! I can't understand why there is so much hair. Mom says I will need to get a haircut, whatever that means. Zane keeps licking me and my hair gets all wet and curly. What is a girl to do? I kind of like the way grass gets stuck in my hair, but mom won't allow it. We'll see how this hair cut goes!

I haven't been alive very long, but my life has been full so far. My mom stepped on me accidentally and scratched my eye. I had a huge ulcer on it, and now I am blind in one eye. The doctor even said I might lose it if it gets worse. I'm all black, so my one white eye really stands out. I was sold to a very nice woman who loved me alot, but she couldn't keep me. Somehow I came to live here with 3 other dogs, and lots of space to run around. Zane, a huge doberman keeps licking my ears, but we really like each other. I ended up really happy, and my human family is happy, too.
