We had a bit of a downpour whilst I was inside eating supper. When it stopped, Momsie let us all outside. Since I am soo super smart I realized the hard, dry dirt under the fence was probably now soft and easy to dig so dig I did.
About 7 or 8 minutes later Mom heard someone yell, and also heard someone knocking on the door. She went out to find two of the vets from the vet clinic next door. Seems they were outside on a break and they brought me home when I went up there visiting!
The problem was not me, however. It was Riley. Once again, he followed me out MY hole and he also went along up to the vet clinic with me. BUT, when they opened the door to let me in, Riley took off cuz he is a scaredy cat! He ran home to Mommy.
Anyway, they saw him run down in the back yard, but they couldn't find him. Mom knew EXACTLY where he was...the little brown noser once again went right back inside the hole I dug and he was pretending he never got out and went visiting, BOL! He was barking at the vets like he was supposed to be protecting HIS pen.
Mom says this is the final breakout... tomorrow morning I am headed over to the boarding kennel to spend the rest of the Summer, like I have EVERY other Summer since I came here. Mom figured there was hope for me this year since I now get along with all the other dogs here and we all go outside together.
I can't help myself...it is an obsession and obessions MUST be dealt with. Besides, I am the BEST at pretending I am not even checking out that fence every time Mom looks out the door to see what I am doing!
Mom keeps reminding me that the fence over at the kennel has TWO FEET buried under ground!!

Well, Mother came right home from work the other day and fixed the fence. She not only put up a new piece over the old part that I pulled off the wall, but she moved a large rock right in front of it.
I took that as a challenge... wouldn't you???
So, this morning the sun was shining brightly so Mom got up early and put us outside. She was sitting in the living room, watching the news and drinking her coffee when she glanced out the window and...yup, she saw RILEY run by!!!
Of course, Mom KNEW Riley would NEVER bust out of the fence...he might climb it, but that is a high fence. Soo, she brought all the other dogs into the house and raced out the door to find ME and Riley.
Mom was in a hurry so she didn't grab her shoes. She was amazed at how slippery and cold that morning frost was!!! Within a few minutes she was limping and complaining so, not seeing either one of us, she headed back to the house for her shoes and a jacket.
Sadly, it was just at that moment that I was running by the front steps on my way up to the vets. She saw me, so I thought it was in my best interest to race over and run into the house with her! BUSTED!
She put me in my crate, got her shoes and jacket and headed back to find Riley. She called and called and called and walked all around the house and even over to the kennel and didn't find him.
Suddenly, she remembered all those "holes" in the lab pen fence, so she raced down there and sure enough, Riley was down there playing with some toys.
As soon as Mom came home from work she added another piece to the fence, moved a HUGE rock on the back side of the hole and moved the dog house right in front of the inside. But... she says that won't work for me because I now know that I can dig UNDER that end fence, too.
Looks like I am back to leash walking again. That was the ONLY pen I hadn't figured out yet, darn it all!!! It was a challenge, but I proved that in spite of being old, I was up to the challenge, BOL!

I have been sooo good for weeks and weeks and weeks, heck, MONTHS even. I haven't even looked at the fences to see if there were any weak spots.
Well, this morning Mom was over at work and when one of the daycare dogs came in the door, I raced in with her. Her owner called me a PUG, imagine that??? And, he LOVES Jethro, who is MY son, yet he knows he is a Frenchie. What's up with that???
Anyway, Mom was MOST unhappy to see me arrive at work. It seems she has been noticing how very good I have been so she left ME outside this morning with the others since it was sunny but cool enough for a Frenchie like me.
I swear, I didn't TRY to escape... I just notice that where the side fence meets the shed wall it was looking a little loose. I pushed and pulled and tugged on it and, suddenly, it pulled right off the bottom of the shed leaving a nice, big hole. It was plenty big enough for me to walk thru so I did! Sadly, I didn't notice that the ground was a good six feet down...that first step sure was a killer!!!! It's okay, I didn't get injured.
I was headed up to the vets on the hill when those people drove in with Yanna for daycare. I decided I would stop in there first and see if Julie had any leftover bagel for me, I have missed them since I've been home.
Trust me, if she HAD any leftover bagel Mom would NOT have let me have any!!! She was MAD at me!!
Would you believe NONE of those other silly poodles or crested even LOOKED at the hole I left, much less walked thru it and they are all smaller than me, BOL!

It was a great weekend! Lola came down from Northern NH to enjoy some of our fresh, green grass and NO SNOW since she still has snow up there. Well, of course she was also her to play with ME and Jethro.
I have all house dog privileges now since I am an untypical male Frenchie and don't fight with any of those male poodles and crested, so I spent nearly the entire weekend out in the nice Spring air playing with everyone. Well, the sun was nice, but that wind was FREEZING. I think Lola brought it down with her!!!
At any rate, I did end up with some new photos for my page. Most of my photos are taken inside because, as good as I am, I cannot go down in the lab pen cuz I escape, hehehe! I can't help it, I must check ALL fences and if they don't pass the Darrell test, I am out of here.
Remember, I am HERE instead of in Florida cuz I wouldn't/couldn't stay in my pen down there after my human died, and they were afraid I was gonna get eaten by an alligator or worse!
No alligators here, but there IS a busy road right beside that lab pen and Mom has nightmares of me getting out and going in the road. Sooo, I am NOT allowed down there unless I have a LONG LINE attached. Did you ever try to race around and play with a long line attached???? Doesn't work too well!

Mom hadn't been noticing too much improvement with my eye, and kept saying I would have to visit the vet again. But, it has been bad around here with vet visits lately so she kept putting in the medicine and putting off the visit.
It was crazy this weekend so she didn't even check it, but, finally it was Monday and the weather was perfect when she got home from work. Sooo, she came outside to sit with us all and visit with us and relax.
Of course, I took advantage of her sitting there and crawled up into her lap for some lovin'. She took a long look at my eye and actually pronounced me 99.9% cured!!!! There is now only a slight clouding where the ulcer was. I was soo happy cuz that means no more drops!!!
As for the nicer weather and all...since Mom isn't allowing us to stay outside while she is at work anymore since Ali's accident last Friday, she is letting us hang outside in the evening until bedtime. Since I am the ONLY ONE who has been totally absolved from blame in that incident, (I was inside by myself!), I am now allowed to spend my evenings outside with all the others. It is pretty nice...we watch the chickies, chase the chippies, and listen to the birds do their chirpies.
I love Spring!!!

Sunday afternoon as I was headed down to the lab pen for a romp with my buddies, Momsie noticed my eye looked "funny" when the sun hit it. She immediately picked me up and peered into my eyes.
Would you believe I had a HUGE ulcer right on my eyeball??? It was shaped in a jagged line down the side of my eyeball so Momsie assumed I must have gotten it scratched. By what is anyone's guess... the cats? the Chickies?? Jethro??? Running into something???? Who knows.
Since it was Sunday, Mom put some drops in it and first thing Monday morning she dropped me off at the vets next door. She was very, very, very afraid they were going to say I needed to have my eye removed. Mom was SURE she was jinxed cuz I would have been the FOURTH one of her dogs to lose an eye in the last two years!
Anyway, they called Mom at noon and said I could go home. The vet said it was an ulcer, all right, BUT it was already healing and furthermore, I also had a smaller one in my other eye. Soo, I have TWO kinds of medicine and have to get drops in both eyes SEVEN times a day!!!! Mom took me to work so she could give me them during the day.
Mom says I got into a spat with Riley last Wednesday and she is thinking that is when I got injured. Dunno!
But, it already feels MUCH better, although Mom says it looks terrible!

As usual, Mom had moved me and Jones over to the kennel at work for the Winter. We have to go there cuz our pens at home all get opened into one huge one so the gates don't freeze closed. Well, of course that means I can't be here cuz I can get out of the big one!
Jones is more dense and hasn't figured out the fence escaping, but he HATES the poodles so he can't go out with them.
Besides, Mom says we help keep the kennel warm for the Winter.
Anyhow, during the holidays Mom rents out OUR runs so we get to spend them here at home. Of course, I have to be walked on a leash, BOL, so that makes Mom have to work even harder, hehehe!!!
So, this morning Mom and Julia did MY Christmas photo over at work and then Julia brought me home. I didn't even get to see the finished photo, but I don't think it is anything super...Mom was complaining that I wouldn't sit still, BOL!
Would YOU sit still, perched up on a grooming table wearing some stupid concoction??? NOPE, NO ONE would... well, Jones did, but he is different!
Mom says she will put on our Christmas photos next weekend.

Lola and Mom seem to be forgetting I had something to do with those puppies of Lola's as well as she did. After all, they are HALF me!!!
I am happy that Mom got the one she wanted, but I am also happy that my record of producing mostly brindle and mostly males is still intact!
Mom was hoping the mostly boy part would stay cuz she wanted a boy AND she has one boy sold. Well, easy for me, hehehe!
Right now no one is letting ME see MY babies, but I am sure I will meet them soon enough. Meanwhile Mom did put a photo of them on MY page!

Exciting weekend for me!!! I woke up on Saturday morning, like normal, and did my morning duties. Julia was here and she put me outside and brought me back in when I was finished, so I had to take a few spins around the house, banking off the bedroom door.
Ooops. Forgot, Mom was sleeping in, hehehe! Mom always works on the weekends unless she has a dog show or something and since she was having company, she had the day off. Company wasn't coming until later so Mom slept in. Since Julia was visiting, too, she got up and let us dogs out so Mom could sleep in.
Anyway, pretty soon, along came Mom's friend, and surprise, it was Lola's new Mom!!! Bigger surprise...Lola was with her!!! I took a sniff and, imagine my surprise to find Lola was here for ME!!! OBOY, OBOY, OBOY!!!
But, Lola came in and got in her crate and Mom and Julia and Lola's NM took off in the car.
Finally, Sunday morning I was allowed to visit Lola and I wined and dined her and we had fun!!! Guess Mom can't call me Sterile Darrell anymore, BOL!!!

Well, today dawned rainy and cool. Perfect weather for my dog show! Laurie showed up at the appointed hour, 6:00AM, and Mom wasn't even ready yet! Did you know the chickies aren't even up at 6:00 on Saturdays!!!
Off we went. Mom even had to turn the heat on in the car, BOL! I was so excited because I almost NEVER go anywhere and besides, I had my show collar on!
Finally, we got there and found a parking place right up in the front row. Whew, I wasn't sure me OR Mom could walk much farther and still be able to run around that ring.
Mom was WRONG, and it was HOT in that building and there were tons of people and other dogs. We walked around a bit and Mom bought some collars for Quincy (I swear, that is the ONLY reason we went, I think!), then Mom found a chair over at our ring. Laurie had to stand up, boo. Lots of people came over and patted me, and I was pretty happy to be there. I was soo excited to see all the people and dogs again after all these years...my last show was in 2005, after all!!! But, it was hot and I had to keep stretching out with my belly on the cool floor. Mom did take me outside where it was a bit cooler, but it was raining and I didn't want to ruin my show doo so we went back inside quickly.
After watching the bulldogs, the dalmations and the regular Frenchies it was time for ME!!! We went into the ring and the judge made us run ALL the way around. It was okay cuz everyone clapped for me!!! Then, I had to stack on the table. That was okay, but Mom realized I was getting pretty hot and my tongue was getting purple! She was hoping I wouldn't pass out, BOL, and embarass her. The judge had us run around one more time, then she gave Mom a HUGE, BIG, rosette!!!! We WON!
But, I WAS hot, and on my way out of the ring I hawked up a HUGE clump of Frenchie foam so Mom told Laurie we were not going to stay there all day to show in the groups! She was hoping she could leave me outside in the car to relax but alas, the sun came out so it was hot there, too. Laurie agreed, my tongue WAS purple, and I AM old, so home we came. Mom said she would rather have me alive than have me Best Veteran in Show!!!
We did stop at a Tractor Supply cuz today was their special Dog day celebration. I got to go inside and I got a Frisbee!!!!
All in all, not a bad day. Of course, it will probably take me all week to rest up!!!

Wow, Mom finally helps me write a diary entry, only my second, and I get picked for Diary of the day!!! Mom says I should be a bit embarassed about this, but, hey, us Frenchies don't get embarassed about ANYTHING!!!! It is OUR world and we expect great things, BOL!
At any rate, I would like to thank HQ, and especially thank all you pupsters who are visiting my page and reading my blurbs.
I would especially like to thank you guys for all the gifts!!! Nice!
Oh yeah, Beanie, who is only needing FIVE visits to reach 14,000, has asked that you please visit his page, too. Thanks from him.
He is a bit spoiled and if he doesn't get his way he gets a bit obnoxious...been around us Frenchies too long, I guess!!!
Have a great day everypup!!! We will cuz it is FINALLY raining here and while the lawns are pretty much gone, at least the crabgrass will grow with all the rain. Crabgrass IS green, afterall!

Wow, Mom told me she entered me in a dog show! I thought those days were long gone. I HOPED those days were long gone, BOL!
Actually, I kind of liked dog shows, back in my day. Apparently this is a special one that us old folks can be in. Mom said that she wanted to take Julia to a show, and since none of the poodles have any fuu fuu hair anymore she decided I was the likely candidate. It just so happens that this show is pretty close to home AND is one of the few that lets us old folks play, too.
Of course, there is a MAJOR problem. I now have three weeks until my dog show and I now have three weeks to lose a few pounds, hehehe! Mom says I am rotund. I say rotund is better than notund!!!!
I wonder if Mom remembers how difficult I am to show???? Guess I won't remind her that I LOVE to embarass my handlers, hehehe. Lets see... there is the little run around the ring scratching my neck with my back foot trick. Or, the I go on the opposite side of the tent pole that Mom goes on, I LOVE that one, hehehe. But, I think the best one is when I jump up, completely UNDER Mom's skirt!!!! Bet she won't wear a skirt IF she remembers that little gift of mine, BOL!!!

Hi, my name is Darrell and I am one of those "other" dogs Mom owns. Actually, with my page, she now has ALL of us on here, finally!
I came to Mom from my original owner who lived in NH for ages, then moved to Florida, and then got ME!
Actually, she was a labrador breeder friend of Moms from the olden days, and Mom got her first Frenchie, Gertrude, from my original Mom back in the early 90's!!! So, that started a long friendship between them and the labs and us Frenchies.
Sadly, my original Mom died and I was quite a problem for my dad. I knew ALL the escape routes out of my pen and, frankly, he was afraid I was going get eaten by an alligator!!! So, Mom and another Frenchie friend of hers drove down and got me.
New Mom did show me some, in fact, Jones and I went to the Frenchie National Speciality in Denver, CO. It was pretty fun but I had to wear a silly poodle skirt in a costume skit we did. Gertrude was supposed to wear it, but she died just before we left to head to Denver and since I was her size, I got elected.
Anyway, I do sort of like living here...I always have someone to play with, and Mom is pretty good to us, too. I do have an obsession with escaping from her pens... but I ALWAYS go up to the clinic next door, hehehe! During the Winter I have to stay in the boarding kennel cuz Mom keeps all the pens opened into one big one, but as soon as the ground dries out in the Spring I can come back home since there is one pen I cannot seem to dig out of! I keep trying but so far, unless Mom forgets to shut the gate like she did on Saturday, I am stuck inside the pen.
I do get to go down into that lab pen, but that pen is really easy to escape from, although Riley and I are the only two who seem to know that, BOL!!
I am hoping nothing bad happens to me like it did to Jonesy after Mom made him a page the other day. Next thing we knew, he was at the vets getting his eye removed. HEY, I LIKE my eyes and would like to keep them both, thank you very much!!!
