Oooops, I was just getting my bearings, and now I'm a DDP again! I didn't even have to write a new entry, BOL!! But I do want to say thanks to HQ, and to my pals who sent me rosies and p-mails even though I didn't do anything! And Condogulations to my pals Charlie and Dayzee, who are also DDPs today!

I suppose I can write about my belly boo-boo's. Mommy noticed them the day after I went to the groomer, last week. Raw spots on my poor little belly. She wasn't sure what they were from. Maybe an allergy to some grasses in the camp we went to? Flea allergies? Or, did the groomer get too close with the clippers? One spot was as big as a half-dollar, the other two were like dimes.

Anyfur, she started dabbing them with stuff, and smearing them with stuff, and she made a vet appointment. He wasn't sure what they were either. But that didn't stop him from giving me TWO shots! OUCH! And he sent mommy home with two kinds of pills. So I'm getting the BIG pill pockets evfurry morning and night. I think they're yummy, and Hershey gets jealous, BOL!! He shouldn't. He gets extra treats, too.

My boo-boo's are scabby now, and I'm not scritching at them. Mommy says I'm good at healing up!

OMD, lookit me! I'm a Dogster Daily Diary Pick fur the second day in a row!! Thanks, HQ!! And thanks to all my pals fur the nice pressies on my page!

I hear there's a loop-de-loop you can get caught in. I hope I don't get dizzy! BOL!!

My pal Max has the Diary of the Day! Yay Max!! And in his diary he says he was tagged. That means he had to answer two questions, and then tag some of his pals. If you want to play, consider yourself tagged, too! Here are the questions, and my answers:

1. Describe one thing your pet pawrent does that you think is REALLY CUTE.

My daddy has a spawcial voice he talks to us with. I can't acfurrily hear him, but it comes with silly faces really close to my face. I love it when he does that!

2. Describe one thing your pet pawrent does that you think is REALLY LAME.

Mommy is always pushing her camera in our faces. C'mon, mom!!!

This is an OUTRAGE!!! Mommy and daddy have been planning a trip to someplace snowy, where somebody I nevfur met is getting married. While they're gone, Hershey and I are going to be staying with a lady who lets lots of doggies stay at her house. During the day, we'll be going to a park where we can run around and play all day! Mommy has our bags all packed. I can eat grass there! I guess it will be fun, and I'm sure glad Hershey will be there.

But get this: We'll be there, and mommy and daddy will be a bazillion miles away on MY BARKDAY, Sunday!!! Can you believe it??! This will only be my second Barkday since I came here to live! Okay, it probably isn't my real Barkday, since no one knows when that was. But it's the day mommy and daddy picked. They picked it, and now they're not even going to be here???!!!

They're coming home the NEXT day. Then they'll come and fetch us. There had better be a stop at the doggy toy store on the way home, that's all I have to say. I think they owe me BIG TIME! Am I right??

Mommy went to add new photos to my page, and got a message that she was at my "display limit" of 127. What's that? So she marked a bunch as "Do Not Display" and added the new ones, but then all my captions disappeared!! Anyfur else having this happen?

Not only that, but I tweaked my back again. This time it hurts down by my tail. Not as bad as last time, but daddy petted me and I yelped. I even made myself yelp with a butt-scoot. So, it was back to the Sunday vet. This time they didn't take me away from mommy and daddy. In fact I barely got poked at all. I have pills to take again, and I have to be quiet this week. That's okay. I feel like being quiet.

It started out on the Worst side. We all got up early this morning, even though daddy didn't have to go to his work place. Mommy and daddy were in a hurry-up, and soon we were all in the car! An adventure?

Not exactly. When we stopped about two minutes later, we were at the vet's office.

Now, I'm a good boy at the vet. I don't cry or carry on, but I don't get all excited and wag my boody all ovfur the place like Hershey does, either. When we go into the little room, I just hope it's him getting lifted up on the table, and not me.

Today it was me. I got poked and prodded, I got lights shined in my eyes, and I even got my eyelashes trimmed. (The groomer likes them long, the vet likes them short, BOL!!)

And then I got STUCK. Twice. The furst time I jumped, the second time I didn't even feel it.

Then he poked at Hershey a little, and then we left.

But we didn't go back home! We drove and drove, I dozed and dozed, and when we stopped I woke up and we were up where the wine grapes grow! We went to the place where they give us big doggie cookies, and daddy bought me a new collar! Then we stood here and sat ovfur there and tried to be still while mommy played with her new camera. She wanted pictures of us in the mustard grass, but I just wanted to eat it! BOL!!

We went to another place, where mommy and daddy had food. We got some treats, but not as many as Hershey wanted, BOL!! After that, we went inside where mommy could look at things and not buy them. We met lots of furry nice peepole who like petting doggies!

It was all pretty exhausting, and when we got back in the car I went into nap mode until we got home. Daddy gave us a half-dinner but I don't care. I'm ready to finish my nap!

I'm feeling much better. In fact I'm feeling furrific! But four sleeps ago, I hurt! It hurt when I walked. It hurt when I tried to look up at my mommy. It even hurt when daddy tried to pet me! I went YELP!!

So we went to the dogtor. This wasn't the same dogtor we usually see. It was a bigger office, and there were lots of dogtors and nurses there. Daddy was carrying me. Then he put me down and someone took me through a door. I couldn't see my pawrents or Hershey! The dogtor put me on a table and started feeling my back. YELP!!!

Then they took me to another place, and they made me lay this way, and they made me stand that way, and they smelled strange and I didn't like it. Then they stuck me with a needle and put me in a cage. And I was in there fur a l-o-o-o-n-g time. I felt some better, but I wondered where my fambly was. Was I moving AGAIN?!

After three of four hours or months or something, I smelled mommy and daddy and Hershey. They walked right by where I was! But they didn't see me. They just kept going, so I started YOWLING!! "I'M OVFUR H-E-E-E-R-E!!" ARRRROOOOOOOOOOWOWOWOOW!!!

Finally they came back, and soon someone came and let me out of the cage and the next thing I knew we were on our way HOME! *whew!*

I feel great now! I'm getting extra cheesy bites twice a day! (Hershey is jealous!) Mommy and daddy are carrying me up and down the stairs when I want to go there, and lifting me on and off the couch if they're quick enough to catch me!

+ Winkie's mom here. There are two possible diagnoses: either degenerative disc disease--which could require surgery down the line; or some disc extrusion--which might be relieved and even reversed with rest and anti-inflamation meds. He's getting pain meds. We're going back Sunday to talk to the vet again about courses of treatment going forward. We'll also bring our regular vet into the loop. (We went to Banfield, at PetSmart. Why do doggie emergencies always happen after the normal vet hours???) +

My brofur Hershey has barked all about the howlidays in his diary, but I have a few things to bark, too. This was my furst Christmas in my furevfur home! I already knew that hoomans bring trees inside the house at Christmas. My foster fambly did that. In this house, it meant my bed got moved! In fact a lot of furniture got moved. It was furry confoosing.

Even getting the tree was an adventure. We all got in the car, so of course I went right to sleep. When I woke up, we were in a forest, and we went on a hike! And we sniffed and looked at the trees one by one. And then we came to one we all liked, and since daddy had a saw he cut it down! That turned out to be the tree that went into our house!

Another adventure we went on was to a castle! That was a car trip, too. We stopped on the way fur cookies and to get some attention at a nice place with a lot of grapevines all around. But then we went on to the castle. I've nevfur seen anything like that befure! It was big, and all made out of stones! It had been raining, so we had to splash through some parts. There were stairs to climb up, and something called turrets, and stone passageways that led to big and small rooms, and stairs to go down again, and lots of people who really like little furry doggies with waggly tails! We even saw a ginormous rainbow in the sky!

One night mommy filled up our dining room table with cheese and MEATZ™. Then people I've nevfur smelled befure started coming inside, and eating it all up! They all wanted to pet us, but no one was sharing their food with us. I got pretty tired, but couldn't find my bed at all. There were chairs and people where it was supposed to be. I was glad when they all went away, BOL!

Another day we went downtown. When we got there we did a lot of walking. We saw lots and lots of people and got lots and lots of petting. There were lights, and the smells were amazing! Especially when we went through the Chinese part of town! After that comes the Italian part, and that smells delicious, too! Hershey and I got bullies and some spawcial Christmas treats while mommy and daddy ate at a sidewalk cafe. We were furry tired by the time we got back to the car and home again!

The next day was Christmas! Mommy and daddy opened lots of gifts, then mommy's brother and his wife came ovfur and they all opened more gifts. After they left, Hershey and I got to open gifts, too! We got new toys that squeak! I fell asleep with one in my mouth!

Since then we've mostly been resting and sticking close to home. Howlidays take a lot out of a pup!

My brofur Hershey tells me that back in the Olden Dayz on Dogster, pups used to Tag each othfur in their diaries. It was a way to get better acquainted and make pals with your pals' pals and stuff.

Nobody's evfur tagged me, but my pal Lola (who is a Daily Diary Pick today!) got tagged by one of HER pals, and she said we could copy the questions into our own diaries and answer them!

1. What color is your collar? - My main one is red. I also have one from a winery that says Mumm on it. I ought to have black and orange Giants one like Hershey's, but mommy can't find one anywhere!

2. What kind of food do you eat? - We eat Eukanuba, because that's what Hershey's breeder fed him.

3. What are your favorite treats? I like apple slices and grass!

4. Do you have a Valentine or significant other? - No, mommy doesn't let us date.

5. Do you get table scraps? Never. My pawrents are stingy like that.

6. What is your favorite toy? My little ball that squeaks! I'll chase it all day long if someone will toss it!

7. When is your Birthday? - We don't really know, but mommy and daddy picked April 14.

8. How many times a day do you get to eat? - Twice

9. Do you have a favorite color? - not really

10. Do you hope all your pals put this in their diary? That would be way cool!!

Yesfurday we went on a home-town adventure. Mommy and daddy said we were going to see some blue angels! So we all got in the car, and we got out at the place where all the boats are tied up. There were a lot of people there! Sometimes there were furry loud noises! I could hear some of them, and some I could feel in my feets! The people kept looking Up, but I couldn't smell anything up there. I was nosing around looking fur dropped food, but there wasn't any. So I started to nap, and then the day got exciting! A little hooman (who had more sense than to keep looking at the sky) came ovfur to make friends! She was furry nice, and we liked each other a LOT. I wanted her to cuddle me, and I gave her lots of kissies. She didn't look blue to me, but I guess she was the angel!

Then her mommy came and we had to say bye-bye. We went back to our car, but we didn't go home. Hershey and I spent the evening at the Wag Hotel.

Three sleeps ago, mommy and daddy both got up early. They started taking things out of the house and putting them into the car. Then mommy gave us our brushing early, right after breakfast! The last time this happened, we all got in the car and got out in a whole different place. Sure enough, it happened again. I woke up a couple of times, and we'd be in a new place. So I peed and poohed and sniffed around, and then we'd get back in the car again. Finally we stopped fur real. Mommy and daddy took my bed and other stuff inside, so I knew this was our new home. I sniffed doggie biscuits! Mommy saw them furst, and put them up high out of my reach, but that didn't stop me from trying! I climbed right up on the bed, then on a table with my paws on the wall! But the biscuits were up on a high window sill, and mommy said Down! So loud, even I could hear her! I didn't try that again. We went fur another ride and came back. Then mommy and daddy sat outside and had some treats, and Hersey and I got to have our treats, too. YUM!! Then it was night-night time. I decided to sleep on the big bed instead of my little one.

The next morning we went fur another car ride, and after mommy and daddy ate their breakfast we met a lot of other people and a couple of other doggies, and we climbed some big stairs into a funny long room with two rows of big soft seats. Mommy called it a "train." We chose our seats, and pretty soon the whole room started moving! So I stretched out on my seat and took a snooze.

When I woke up we got off the train and we were in a forest and someone was burning MEATZ™! It all smelled furrific, but we didn't get any. We walked around and sniffed and peed and pooped, and then we got back on the train. This time there was no roof, and I had to sleep on a hard floor. When I woke up again, we were back where we started. So we walked around letting mommy shop fur awhile. Then mommy and daddy had dinner at a place that smelled like fishies. Hershey and I didn't get our din-din until we got back to our bed-place. And then we went night-night again. This time I slept in my own bed.

The next morning I saw two big doggies through our back door! (The door was made of glass, you could see right through it!) Mommy said they were deer, not doggies, and I could NOT go say Woof! Hershey nevfur even saw them, BOL!!

We got brushed and mommy and daddy packed up the car again. Then we went into town. Mommy and daddy had breakfast, then mommy went shopping some more. Mommy LOVES to shop. This was a nice town, they let doggies go into the shops! So there were lots of new smells to discover.

Around lunchtime we all got back in the car. When I woke up again we were at a winery, and there were one, two, three, four, FIVE other doggies and lots of furry nice hoomans who kept giving me kissies. (Hoomans always want to give me kissies on my nosie!) Then we got back in the car again, and when I woke up we were home!

Today we all got up early again! Hershey and I got early brushings, and then we all got back in the car. But this time we only went as fur as the Wag Hotel. Hershey and I spent the whole day there, playing. Here's our Report Card:

"Hershey and Winkie had a great time in All Day Play! They stuck together most of the day, but made their own pals, too. Hershey really liked to share toys with Oscar the Havanese, while Winkie liked to wrestle with Sophie the poodle. They both enjoyed lounging about with Murphy and getting lots of TLC from staff!"

I wonder what tomorrow will bring!

We had a fun weekend! Two sleeps ago we went to a place even mommy and daddy have nevfur been to befure! Mommy called it a flea market. WHAT????!! Why would anyone want to buy fleas??! Furtunately, we nevfur found the flea stall, but there was a lot of Stuff there mommy and daddy had fun looking at. There were also lots of other doggies, and lots of hoomans who like doggies! So Hershey and I had a great time, too.

Yesfurday we just chilled and watched the Olympics, then we went to bed.

But then, way befure the sun was ready to come up, Hershey and I sniffed intruders!! BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK! Daddy kept saying HUSH! Daddy kept telling us what time it was. (4 a.m., like we cared!) NO!! We have intruders!! BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!

Finally mommy came downstairs and went where we told her, to the furnace vent. Our furnace sits sort of in the middle of the house, in a closet with a door on the kitchen side and a vent in the living room. And inside that closet, mommy figured there must be a raccoon! They have come in befure, Hershey says, through an outside vent that was supposed to have been fixed.

When it was time fur mommy and daddy to leave fur the office, the raccoon was still in there! I TOLD them so!! But they left anyway.

Then mommy came home, and called somebody, and FINALLY he came. He helped mommy move things out of the way and opened the furnace door and he showed mommy--not one, but TWO raccoons sitting there behind a grate looking scared. He said he was going to do this, and he said then he would do that, and when it gets dark and quiet tonight they should pack up and leave. I hope so!! Hershey has lost interest, but mommy can hear them wiggling around in there, right behind her chair! And I can smell them!! BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!BARK!

I do. Some days not at all, and some days just a nibble. But some days I NEED to go out and eat grass, and I need to do it RIGHT NOW!! I cough, I gag, I whine and howl, I pace! When mommy or daddy FINALLY get my leash on and open the door, I FLY out there and dive into the grass up to my topknot. Then I chompchompchompchompchompchompchompchomp!! And we move on down the street and I chompchompchompchompchomp some more, and so we go, all the way around the block. Daddy makes me "C'mon, Winkie!" Mommy looks at her watch. Hershey (who comes along because he will NOT be left behind!), just sits there and watches the neighborhood.

Finally I have enough, and we go back home. Most of the time I feel better. Sometimes I don't, and I pace around and can't get comfy, and I hackhackhack and finally urka my salad. THEN I'm fine.

Until next time.

I've always been like this, at least as fur as anyone knows. At my foster home I had my own yard, so I could graze whenevfur I wanted. I had a little privacy. Here, I have to be on leash every time I go out, so you know the hoomans are all into all my business.

Now mommy wants to know if there's something she can feed me so I won't need to eat grass. Because a grass feast takes a long time. And because it doesn't always stay down. And because Hershey and I are gonna be staying at the Wag Hotel fur a few nights in a month or a year or something, and there is NO GRASS there! That is not good. So if you or your pawrents have any ideas, we'd like to hear them!

I'm late writing this, but you'll understand.

It was three sleeps ago that we all woke up early. When we looked outside, the whole world had disappeared! Mommy says it was foggy, but I've seen foggy and this was way thicker. The world was gone, I tell you!

I guess that's why mommy and daddy decided to start packing the car, so we could go find the world again. They even packed my bed, and Hershey's whole crate! We got in the car and all buckled up, and I curled up fur a long ride. We stopped once, and mommy and daddy ate. We were getting closer to the world again. I could see boats and smell water. Then we drove and drove, and I dozed. When we stopped again, there was the world!

Only, it wasn't my world. It smelled a little like mine, but the sea smell was stronger, and there were LOTS more doggie smells! And food smells! Mommy and daddy took their stuff, and my bed and Hershey's crate, into a house that was way smaller than ours. In fact it wasn't a house at all, just a room and a bathroom. I figured we were moving.

Outside, this place had lots of shops. I know about shops. Mommy goes in, and daddy stays outside with us. Or sometimes daddy goes in. But in this town, ALL of us went in! Shops are wonderfur places!! They're full of Stuff, like shoes, and books, and things on hangers, and hats and baskets and boxes! Some of them are full of paintings on the walls, and you just walk around and sniff. And there are treats and water bowls evfurrywhere, and people to pet you and take your picture. And other doggies!! OMD, we saw doggies evfurrywhere! Big ones and little ones and all colors and breeds and mixes! We sniffed and sniffed!

The best shop of all is called Diggidy Dog. Have you evfur been to PetCo? Maybe PetSmart? You've nevfur seen a shop like this! They have the BEST TREATS in the WHOLE WORLD, and they put them out in big barrels where we can reach them and try them out and let mommy and daddy know what we like! They have so many toys I couldn't even pick one out! They have all the furry best collars and leashes and beds, and doggy things especially fur the pawrents. Doggy art. Doggy books. OMD, my nose got so tired, and my neck was sore from twisting around to look at evfurrything. Best of all, lots and lots of doggies to sniff! Daddy bought us a big bag of treats, and Hershey swiped a big, long bully on the way out! BOL!!

When it was time fur din-din, mommy and daddy picked a restaurant with table outside where they allow doggies. Hershey and I got our own water bowls, and daddy gave us furevfur treats to keep us busy. I was so tired, I let Hershey finish mine. Then we went to more of the picture places (mommy calls them "galleries"). Finally we went back to our room. We all climbed up on the big bed and I was out in a wink! BOL!!

In the morning mommy and daddy packed all our stuff back in the car. We all got in, but we only drove down the road a little bit to the beach. Even though it was early there were--guess what?--lots and lots of doggies there with their pawrents. Most of them got to be off-leash, including Hershey. I have to keep my leash on, but daddy took me, so we could run around and play a little and get our feets wet! We went all the way to one end, and back again! It was F-U-N!!!!

After all that, mommy still had some shopping in her, so we went back up into the town. Shop and shop and shop, and a gallery or two, and lots more doggies, and then it was lunch time. We went to a place where they have a patio and a whole separate menu just fur doggies!! Hershey and I each ordered a bowl of grilled chicken strips! Mommy and daddy got something, too, but we didn't care!

After lunch we got one more big drink, and then it was back in the car fur the ride back to our real house. I just slept.

And guess what? When we got home, our world was still all hidden in fog. But now I know, even if we can't see it, there is a whole bigger world out there, full of amazing things!

I could have slept fur a week. But guess what? The furry next morning, we all got back in the car again, and Hershey and I got dropped off at the Wag Hotel! We were in the All Day Play group, but to tell you the truth, we didn't do much, BOL!! When mommy and daddy picked us up and took us home, we just kept on napping.

And that's why I didn't write in my diary until tonight.

Mommy loves the wine country. It looks like I'll be making lots of visits up there, which is fine with me! Yesfurday we went again, but we went a different way. And the furst place we stopped wasn't a winery or shop or cafe at all. It was a house where some hoomans live with their doggy. I heard him barkbarkbarking befure we even got to the door. When we went inside we hadn't sniffed each other furry long at all befure he started snarling and snapping at me! So his hu-brother picked him up, and then Hershey and I started checking out all the pieces of treats and toys and bullies and stuff he has all ovfur his house! Hershey got more, because daddy let him off his leash. Mommy wouldn't let me off mine. Mommy's kind of a kill-joy that way.

When we left, the doggy's hu-brother came with us! Not the doggy, though. And that's when our day in the wine country began. We stopped at a place I've been befure, where evfurryone seems to know Hershey and they make a big fuss ovfur us. Next we went to a place where the hoomans got food. Mommy made Hershey and me sit on the funny little chairs and took our photo. We also met some other doggies and hooman puppies there! One of them even had her pawrents take our photos on the funny little chairs!

We went to two other places and sat around fur awhile and let people pet us, but to tell you the truth I was pretty much done by then. I slept all the way home. It was a long day, but a fun one! This morning daddy and his friend got up early and went bye-bye. Mommy and Hershey and I are still resting up from yesfurday, BOL!!

I'm letting mommy write this entry fur me:

We saw Winkie's story on the news in February. My husband had been making noises about getting a second cocker for awhile. I was NOT sold on the idea. Where would I find time to brush two cocker spaniels every day? How do you even walk two dogs at once? Where would we feed another dog? Where would he sleep? And on and on. But when I saw this story, something in me would not rest until I had at least made the call: (click on) KTVU Story

I called on the last day that applications were being accepted. It was a Friday, we both work and couldn't get there, but the foster mom sensed something and prevailed on the shelter to extend the deadline until Sunday. On that day, we gathered up Hershey and the camera, and went across the bridge to meet Winkie. It was love at first sight.

We thought we were only submitting an application, and we knew we were were not the only applicants. But after chatting for awhile and letting the dogs get acquainted, the foster family and the shelter director excused themselves, and came back with adoption papers for us to sign. Winkie was ours! (click on) Adopted!

I had never had a "special needs" animal before. Winkie isn't totally deaf, but hard of hearing following ear canal ablation surgery to eradicate his severe ear infections. No one knows what happened to his eye. His jaws are not strong. He can't play tug. He prefers small balls, apple and banana slices and soft treats. He can't jump, but he's good at crawling up on the furniture. (He totally took over my big comfy reading chair. Now we have an "arrangement," like a timeshare!) He doesn't like being alone. If he awakens in a room by himself he has a howl that can rattle windows!

What had we gotten ourselves into? I was all over Dogster asking for guidance! The best advice we got was to take a breath, and treat him as a normal dog. We are careful not to come up from behind and startle him, something even humans who are hard-of-hearing can appreciate. He's learned hand signals for Sit and Stay. Of course, he has to be on leash if we're outdoors. For the most part, though, he doesn't realize anything is amiss!

He's very attached to his brofur Hershey, following him wherever he goes. He can hear Hershey bark, so he knows when the mail arrives or someone comes to the door. Like Hershey, the highlight of his day is when daddy comes home! He also loves to ride in the car. That was a must for us! We're introducing him to our favorite doggy destinations, like the beach and the wine country, and he's just had his first ferry boat ride. Oh, how he loved the wind in his fur! He's understandably nose-driven, interested in everything, and especially attracted to other dogs. We love taking him to fenced-in areas where he can safely run off-leash!

Now, we can't imagine our home without Winkie. We feel so grateful to the unknown person who found him, to Oakland Animal Services for the care they lavished on him, and to his foster family who loved him back to health for almost a year. We are just the recipients of all their good work. I'm still learning how to manage two curious cockers on two leashes, but Winkie is teaching us that nothing is impossible!

Today Hershey and I got our brushings early, and we did not do a bye-bye daddy. I know what that means now: an adventure!! We got in the car again, and we didn't go furry far at all. We got out at a place where there was a lot of water but no sand. We were still in the city. Right on the edge, where the city ends and it's all water.

We walked along the edge fur a little way, and came to a place where lots of people were going in and out of places mommy called "shops." We went into one, and Hershey and I got some yummy treats! It smelled doggy in there, but we didn't see any other furs. Then daddy or mommy went into a few more shops, but we had to wait outside. Once we went around a corner and saw a lot of fishy-smelling, doggy-looking animals sleeping out on beds that were floating on the water! Mommy called them sea lions. I think she got that wrong. They didn't look anything like lions. Evfurrywhere we went, people kept wanting to say hello and pet me and Hershey. They were furry nice.

The next thing that happened, we walked along a narrow kind of sidewalk thing that felt sort of loose underfoot. It led to one of those funny-looking cars on the water that mommy calls "boats." She said this one was a "ferry." It was big! We went inside, and we climbed some stairs, and then we climbed some more stairs and we were outside again but way on top of the boat! It felt funny, rolling this way and that, and then I felt a big rumble and we started moving! I could tell, because the wind was blowing in my face! So I did what I do on car rides: I laid down and took a nap.

It was a furry short nap. The ferry stopped, and we went back down all the stairs and out the door and up another narrow walk, and we were in a new place. I could smell lots of yummy people food, and lots of doggies, and that salty smell that big water has. We walked around a little, and then mommy and daddy found some tables outside and tied me and Hershey up while people brought them food. Daddy gave us special treats!

After we ate, we all walked around a little more. Mommy or daddy would go into a shop while the rest of us waited outside. People would stop to pet us and take our pictures! Finally we went back to the ferry. We got back on, and it rumbled, and I took another nap, and then we got off and we were back where we started. Some more walking and we found our car, got in and came home.

So I learned that a boat is different than a car. It's way bigger. If you want, you can walk around on it! It takes you places, but it goes on the water, instead of the road. It makes the wind blow in your fur. And you can meet lots of nice people! I like boats!

Today we went on an amazing adventure! The sun was shining, and it was furry warm outside. That hardly evfur happens at my house. Daddy said it was too nice a day to waste, so we all piled into the car and off we went.

We didn't drive furry far at all, and when we got out we went down some stairs and at the bottom was a kind of place I've nevfur seen in my whole life. Instead of grass there was sand. I've seen sand befure, at Fort Fun. But here there was a LOT of it, and if you kept going across it there was a lot of water! I mean a LOT. All the way I could see in both directions! And the water was alive!! It would come at me, and then it would back off, and then it would come again!! Hershey and mommy would run away when the water came in, but not daddy and me! We stood there and let it get us! It was cold and salty! OMD, I LOVED it!!!

We walked along by the water as fur as we could, and then we turned around and walked back again. If I got wet, we walked in the warm sand until I got dry again. Sand does that. It was pawsome. And, there were lots and lots of other doggies there, too!

Next we went to a place where we sat out on a deck and looked at some more of the o-shun (that's what mommy and daddy called it), and there were a lot of doggies there, too. I especially liked Rudy, a little white doggy with furry long fur and furry short leggies! His mommy said he's a Coton de Tulear. We kept trying to play, but we were both on our leashes.

Next we went to a place fur mommy and daddy to get their din-din. Some places they can eat outside, so Hershey and I can sit with them. This one was full of wonderful, salty fishy smells! I didn't get any of that, but daddy gave us some yummy treats. There were lots of doggies there, too! If you looked across the street, you saw a lot of funny-looking cars parked on the water. Mommy called them fishing boats.

We didn't get much to eat when we got home, because of all the treats. But I don't care. I'm going to sleep and dream about the o-shun! I hope we go back there again!

I'm beginning to get the hang of this. If mommy brushes us right after breakfast, and if daddy doesn't go bye-bye on his own, that means we're going on an adventure! It happened again today. We all piled into the car, almost like yesfurday, only this time mommy was up in her seat and Hershey and I were in the back. We drove across the bridge that isn't orange, and then we drove and drove some more, and then things started to smell somehow...familiar.

When we stopped and got out of the car I knew I had been on this street befure. And then we all walked up to a house, and went inside, and there was my foster Mommy Kay and Daddy Alex and Unfur-sis Savannah and brofur Kilo, who all took such good care of me until I went to my furever home!! OMD!!! I sniffed and sniffed and sniffed and sniffed them!! I wagged my tail until my wagger was sore!!

There were lots of other hoomans around, big ones and little ones, and OMD lots and lots of food smells!! It was Savannah's birthday and they were having a big pawty! We went through the house and out back, and all the little hoomans were running around and there was a big Bouncy House right in the back yard where I used to graze and play! We had to stay on our leashes, but I explored here and there and evfurrywhere. I knew lots of the people from befure, and they all told me and my pawrents how good I'm looking. They liked Hershey, too, BOL!!

Hershey and I tried our best, but no one gave us any people food. Even the little hoomans hardly dropped any! Well, we probably would have done better off-leash. After awhile we got tired and it was time to go home and get our din-din. We all sniffed and hugged and kissed and said bye-bye until next time! Then we jumped in the car and I didn't even sleep all the way home!

That was a furry nice surprise!

This morning mommy gave us our brushings right after breakfast. And daddy was still home. That's unusual. I knew something must be up. Next, a lady came into our house! Hershey was furry excited, and the lady was furry happy to see us. I liked her a lot! I guess mommy and daddy liked her, too, because we all got in the car togefur! The lady sat in mommy's seat, and mommy sat in back with me and Hershey. Hershey was hogging mommy's lap, so I just went to sleep.

When we stopped, I recognized the smells. We were in the same town we went to on our last adventure, where some of the trees aren't trees but vines. The hoomans ate, and we walked around meeting people and doggies until it was time to head back home. That's a furry nice place. I wonder why we don't just live there?

I thought I had the routine at my new home pretty well figured out. Most days, we get up early and send daddy off to work (whatevfur that is) and hang out all day with mommy until he gets home. Some days daddy doesn't go to work, and we might nap all day or we might go to Fort Fun if the weather is nice. That's about it.

But today was way different! We all got up early, but daddy didn't go to work. Instead he took a bunch of stuff out of a closet and loaded it in the car. Some of it smelled yummy!! Then Hershey and I got buckled in our harnesses and mommy and daddy both got in the car and we took off! I figured it might be a long ride, so I curled up fur a nap.

When I woke up we were not in the city anymore. I saw lots of big trees, and lots and lots of little trees. Mommy said those little ones aren't trees at all, they're grape vines. I don't know, but the air in that place smells furry sweet! We went to a place with lots of tables and chairs and lots of furry friendly people. Hershey and I got some water and some treats and lots of attention. Nice place!

Then we got back in the car and I napped again until we stopped. We were at another place with tables and chairs outside. More friendly people wanted to say hello and pet us! It was warm out, and mommy said she could stay there furever, but finally we moved on.

This time we just took a short ride into a town. Mommy and Hershey and I found a bench, and daddy went shopping. We met more people and a few other doggies, and then daddy came back with a bag that smelled REALLY good!! And then we took another short ride. Wen we got out there were tables and benches again, and big trees and those little trees that grow grapes. Mommy and daddy picked out a table and daddy laid out all the food he had bought fur them. They had a picnic, mommy said. Hershey and I had a picnic, too. Daddy had more treats fur us, and someone had also left some food in the grass around the table fur us! I like picnics!

When we were all done eating, mommy took some pictures and then it was time to head fur home. We were all tired, but I think I'm the only one who napped until we got there! When I woke up, it wasn't warm and blue anymore at all, but foggy and cold and drippy. I knew we were home then!

Today was supposed to be furry special. My Furst Big Adventure, mommy said. All week long she's been telling me about it. We were going on a Big Car Ride! I love riding in the car!! We were going up to the place where the wine doggies live! I don't know them, but she says it's furry nice up there. She says it smells sweet, and the people love doggies and we would have a picnic! I don't know what a picnic is, but she promised I'd like it. She bought me a special water bottle fur traveling, and a special leash fur sitting at tables with mommy and daddy while they eat. Outdoors!! She got out the Doggie Travel Bag that has the special treats in it. I can smell them!! She said we'd all be getting up early fur breakfast and brushings, and then we'd GO!!

Mommy got up early. Daddy said his throat hurt. Mommy took her shower, and daddy fed us and took us out. Then daddy plopped on the couch.

Mommy said "Are we going?" Daddy said *grunt*. Daddy said *sniff*. Daddy said *grumble*.

It's a spectacular day, sunny and blue and warm. I have a new leash and a new water bottle, and I'm all brushed up and packed and ready to go!

Daddy and Hershey are snoring on the couch.

"Did you have fun on your birthday, Winkie-dink?"

"What barkday, mommy?"

"You remember, Winks, it was just last weekend!"

"Last weekend? Mommy, I'm a dog! I can barely remember the last place I scratched!"

"C'mon, Sweetie, your friends want to hear about your big day."

*sniff* Okay, mommy, but after this we need to write stuff down RIGHT AWAY.

My Barkday was on Saturday. Saturdays are different. On Saturday the pawrents sleep later, and we don't have to say bye-bye daddy after breakfast. But last Saturday, we all went bye-bye! Me and Hershey and mommy and daddy all got in the car, and we went all the way across town. Then we stopped and got out at a place that smelled all doggy. Hershey still doesn't really talk to me, but I could tell he was furry excited! We went inside, and there were furry nice people who pet us and loved on us and got all excited with us! Then we went this way and mommy and daddy went that way. The next thing I knew I was off-leash in a big room full of other doggies to PLAY WITH!!! So I played and sniffed and sniffed and played and chased and ran around and then I found Hershey (who mostly lounges!), and I crashed!

Later mommy and daddy came to get us, and then we all went to the doggy store and I got to pick out a new toy! Of course I got a squeaky, BOL!! Hershey got a new toy, too, and we both got big cookies that looked like ice cream cones! We got to eat them when we got home, and they were SO GOOD! Then I got my toy and I went squeak-squeak-squeak all ovfur the place, and mommy and daddy played with me until I just dropped, BOL!!

I should probably say that even though I'm a grown-up dog, this was my furst actual barkday. Nobody knows when or where I was acfurrily born. But the vet dogtor looked at my toofies and said I might be four or five. I play like a puppy, so mommy and daddy decided I'll be four. I was turned in to the animal shelter last year on April 14, so they decided that would be my barkday! I liked it a lot!! I wanna do it again!!

Well, this was a most unusual day! After daddy went bye-bye, mommy put our leashes on and took us fur a ride in the car! Hershey knew where we were going, as usual, and as usual, he didn't tell me.

It wasn't a long ride. We got out of the car and walked a block or so, and into a place where you can smell all kinds of doggies! Kitties, too! Mommy talked to a nice lady there. Mostly they talked about me. Then mommy said "Be good, boys!" and she left! I would have started crying, but the nice lady opened another door, and on the other side were a bunch of other doggies! OMD I love meeting new doggies!!!

I can't tell you evfurrything that went on. Hershey says, "What happens at the groomer stays at the groomer!" But I got a bath, and then I got my hair cut, all ovfur!! So did Hershey! We were there almost all day, and then mommy came to take us home. The nice lady told mommy I was furry good and stood still and didn't mind anything except fur when she was shaving my nosey. But she's not a real auntie, just a friend of mommy and daddy's who likes doggies. So she comes and knocks on the door after we get our brushings, and she takes Hershey and mommy takes me and we go fur a Big Walk. She came once last week, and twice this week!

Today mommy took me and Hershey on a furry Big Walk! I could tell Hershey knew where we were going, but he doesn't really talk to me. We went out our door like always, but we crossed the street and went up some stairs (I'm getting good at stairs!) and right out of our neighborhood! There's a big, busy street up there, and that's what we headed down. Mommy kept us close.

We walked and walked and walked. We passed a place with lots of people milling around, and lots of dropped food in the nice deep grass by the sidewalk. Mommy wouldn't let us have any, but I think Hershey snagged something. Then we passed a place with lots of cars parked and driving in and out. That went on and on and on. I saw lots of people, but none of them stopped to pet me. We didn't stop much either. Hershey was on a mission.

Finally we went back down some more stairs, and Hershey was getting so excited he wanted us all to run! Mommy doesn't run. We kept walking, and soon I began to sniff all kinds of enticing things! Food, and treats, and other doggies, and toys! We crossed a street and through a door and OMD! We were in doggy heaven! The people inside pet us and gave us treats, and we smelled all kinds of food and treats and saw evfurry kind of toy you can imagine! I thought Hershey might go clean out of his mind! BOL!!

We didn't stay nearly long enough. Mommy got some little tennis balls, the kind that fit in my mouth best, and a stick to throw them with. The people gave us some more treats, and then we started fur home. We got another shot at the dropped-food zone, but to tell you the truth we were both pretty tired. It felt good to get back home to an apple slice and my nice soft bed. I wonder when we'll take the new balls out to play?

OMD! Not this day (as Zaidie would say), but yesfurday when we came to Dogster, mommy went "OH!!" She said, "Winkie, look! You're Dog of the Day!!" OMD, I had rosies and crowns amd messages and pup pal requests all ovfur the place!! Mommy was so happy, and she said as soon as I sent out all my thank-you's, we could go fur a BIG WALK! :0)

And then something happened. Mommy started making faces at her confuser, and then she started yelling at it, and then she picked up the phone to call the confuser guys at her office, and the phone was dead. Ut-oh. That started a lot of calls on her little phone, and meanwhile I'm wondering, What happened to my Big Walk???

It nevfur happened. Mommy kept trying this confuser and that confuser and this phone and that phone and talktalktalking to people, and befure we knew it, it was just time for me and Hershey to GO OUT!!!! So all we got was a short "business walk." Grrrrrr.

It turns out somebody working around here cut our phone line. I don't know what that has to do with Dogster, but apparently they're connected. So I just finished all my thank-you's today. I won't list evfurry name here, but I do want to thank Flicka fur my commemorative plaque. I'm gonna keep it as my main piccie today, just because I couldn't pick it up until after everyfur went to bed last night! Thanks to all and all and all of you, and to Dogster fur choosing me!!!

This was a furry unusual day! Furst, it rained all day. It's nevfur done that since I've been here. Of course Hershey and I had to go outside anyway, but you've nevfur seen such a short walk! And when we got back we got rubbed and rubbed and wiped and wiped. Appawrently mommy is fussy about the carpet and furniture.

So it was a long lazy day until daddy got home. He only wanted to take us out one at a time, because of the drying-off part. Hershey went furst, and then me. It was another short walk and more rubbing and wiping after. Then mommy took my collar and put a new jingly on it! My license! I'm an actual dog now, as far as the City of San Francisco is concerned!

I was so excited and wound up that, I took a dive into the toy pile and came up with a stuffie, one of the fluffy bears that Molly and her fambly sent. And as soon as I started to work him ovfur, Hershey came up to play, too! He's nevfur done that befure! We dodged, we weaved, we wagged and pounced, we chased each other around and it was FUN!! Mommy and daddy were furry happy! I didn't think he had it in him, BOL!!!

As of today, I've been in my new home fur two weeks. I like it here! My new mommy and daddy play with me on the floor! We have lots and lots of toys! Evfurry day I get brushed and go fur walks. There are a lot of doggies living around here! I'm always meeting new ones, and their pawrents! And I have a big chair to sleep in, unless mommy's sitting there. BOL!!

My new brofur isn't really paying attention to me yet. In fact he moves if I get too close, but I like him. He doesn't growl or anything. He doesn't know how to play ball, BOL!! If daddy throws me a ball, I run and get it and bring it back. If he throws one fur Hershey, he runs and gets it and then just holds it in his mouth untill we all stop playing! How is that fun?

Today mommy and daddy decided on my barkday. They're calling it April 14, the day I was turned in to the shelter, because in a way that's when my life started ovfur. They think I'm about four, but not five. So fur a few weeks I'm gonna be three, BOL!!! I don't know how that all works, but it makes sense to them!

Even though it isn't my barkday today, we're going to the dog bed store to get me a new bed. The one I have is too small, even though it would fit in Hershey's crate where he likes to sleep. I'm more of a sprawler! Mommy doesn't mind sharing her chair SOMETIMES, but she says I really need a bed of my own. Maybe we'll get some more toys, too!

I'm still figuring out how things work here. Mostly, we spend the day with mommy after daddy goes bye-bye. We nap and play and get brushed and go out, and nap and cuddle until daddy comes home again. Then we get our din-din and play and nap some more, and then it's night-night time, and then we start ovfur.

But yesfurday was different. Daddy didn't go bye-bye. Instead, we all got in the car! Ohboyohboyohboy, I love riding in the car! Furst we went to a vet office. I know what that is, but this was a new one. I met the dogtor and he met me, and he looked here and felt there and said I was a good boy. Then he looked at Hershey, and then we left.

Next we went to the doggie store, and there is a vet office there, too! We didn't see a vet, just some people and doggies and nice ladies who said Hi Winkie and pet me a lot. Then we left.

Next we went to a place where I smelled a lot of doggies but didn't see any. There are furry nice people there who loved on me and scritched my chin and told me they'll be happy when I come back. Mommy and daddy called it "the Wag." It feels like fun!

Next we went to a place where daddy filled out papers and I got my picture taken. That was boring.

But then we went to a furry exciting place! It was the biggest backyard I have evfur seen! There were lots of doggies and their pawrents there, and daddy took my leash off! I ran and ran and ran!! I kept seeing new people way over THERE, and new doggies running way ovfur THERE, and I had to meet them ALL. Evfurry now and then mommy and daddy and Hershey would catch up with me, and we'd walk togefur fur a bit. But then I'd see another doggie ovfur THERE, and off I'd go! Pretty soon I got my leash back on. :0/

I was furry tired when we got home!

Today we went to a different place. This one smelled like the ocean, and there were about a bazillion doggies there! I didn't get my leash off this time, even though Hershey did. But it was okay, I walked with daddy and he walks fast! I had to stop and sniff evfurry doggie. We met a lot! My sniffer is all worn out!

I think I'll sleep fur a furry long time!

If you read my Arrival Story, you know I was rescued by Oakland Animal Services. They put me on TV a year ago to ask fur help with all my medical needs, and they found my foster fambly to take care of me. And when I was ready fur adoption they put me on TV again so my new mommy could see me! They just featured me with an update on their website:

My people were acting kind of strange all week. They hugged me harder, and when we went visiting the old people they made it feel like I wouldn't be seeing them again. Then yesfurday morning, mom put my best blankie and my favfurite toy in a bag, and her eyes kept leaking. Then someone came to the door and we all barked, and it was the fambly we had met at the animal shelter, the ones with the chocolate doggie. He's furry active! I showed him around a little, and there was more hugging and some picture-taking, and then the chocolate doggie pooped in our hall! So then he and his fambly got back in their car, and I got in with them!

I love to ride in the car! And this ride was farther than any ride I remember! There were hills, and then lots of water, and then big buildings, and then we stopped and got out. We went on a sniffing excursion outside, and then we went inside. I could smell that this is the chocolate doggie's house. But the new people were acting as if this was my house, too! I have a new mommy and a new daddy and a new brofur! His name is Hershey. He has a LOT of fur.

We all played on the floor, and then we napped, and then we walked some more and played some more. My blankie and stuffie got unpacked, and Hershey and I each got new toys, too! I got supper in my brand-new supper dish, and I pooped in the kitchen just to even the score, BOL!!

My new daddy loves to be buried in dog! He picked me up on the couch with Hershey, and we all fell asleep there! I got down later and went to my new bed, and in the morning daddy couldn't find me, BOL!! Where else would I sleep, Daddy?

I'm still getting rosies and pawmails and so much love from my new Dogster pals! I think I'm gonna like my new life!

Winkie hasn't quite joined our family yet. We just met him today. We had seen him on TV. That was one week ago today. My husband had suggested a couple of times that we might think about adding a dog, but I resisted the idea. But Winkie wouldn't leave my mind. So I prayed for a couple of days. And then I called the number and spoke with his foster mom, Kay.

We thought we'd meet him today, and our application would be added to the others, and we'd hear in a week or so, one way or the other. Instead, everybody fell in love with everybody and before we knew it we were signing papers and Winkie was ours!

I wish I could say that Hershey and Winkie became instant buddies. Honestly, they pretty much ignored each other. We'll see how it goes when we bring Winkie home next weekend. But I want to go on record as saying, Winkie is the cutest, most lovable doggie in the world (after Hershey!), and the bravest I know of! I hope we'll give him the home he deserves.

I've never had a "special needs" dog before. Winkie is deaf, and blind in one eye. If anyone has experience or suggestions, we're all ears! Except Winkie, BOL!!!
