<content:encoded><![CDATA[ A couple weeks ago my human started loading up our car. I love car trips so I was pretty excited! I started getting a little concerned when I saw all the stuff she was putting in my riding space, but I figured I must have a spot reserved somewhere else. When she put my bed on top of a pile of suitcases in the back I was sure she was joking, but then she picked me up, put me in, and shut the back! I couldn't even sit up all the way without bumping my head against the ceiling.

We drove all day, with stops every couple hours so I could stretch my legs, and ended up in Utah where my human's cousin was graduating from high school. To our surprise, the school was super dog friendly and I was allowed to go to all the events, including the graduation! There was a big soccer/football field to run in, a stream to play in, and horses to meet!

After a couple days in Utah, we got back in the car, and drove up to Idaho where we stayed the night. The next day we got back in the car again and kept driving, but about an hour down the road, all the luggage tied to the roof off the car flew off! Fortunately, it all bounced onto the shoulder and the humans were able to retrieve it. Unfortunately, because the bungee cord hooks were bent, all that luggage had to come into the car, and guess where most of it ended up. Under my bed of course! I couldn't even lift my ears I was so close to the ceiling. I was not happy, to say the least. I had to ride that way for the next seven hours until we finally arrived in Washington.

The car ride wasn't fun but now that we're here, I'm having a blast! I love the weather up here, cool and rainy instead of hot and sunny like at home, I hate being overheated! I've been to the lake where I got to play with my cousin Maggie the Beagle and retrieve my toy from the lake, the beach where I dug holes and retrieved my toy from the ocean, and the lush, green backyard where we do obedience training and I get to retrieve my toy. Can you guess what my new favorite game is? I ask my human if we can go out and play fetch at least ten times a day!

Yesterday we went to a WA state park and hiked around for a while. It was beautiful and more importantly, had lots of interesting sniffs! I was having a good time but then I saw the ocean and convinced my human we should go down the steep, rocky slope that was the only way to get down to it. My human complained at me that we never having an outing that doesn't involve getting wet, but she couldn't say no to my manipulative face.

So I reckon the cramped car ride was worth all the fun I've been having. Human says there will be two fewer people and a lot less luggage on the ride home so I'll have tons of space. She also ordered me a seat belt which arrived yesterday that I'll be wearing on our way back home. I tried it out today when we went to the store to buy me more food. It was alright but I'm still getting used to having my movement restricted. My human says it'll keep me safe in the event of an accident so I guess I'll humor her.

Hope all my pup pals are enjoying their summer and staying cool! Onyx out!]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Been a while since I updated the old dairy with all my goings on. I was invited to the advanced obedience class a couple weeks ago which my human was happy about. We've gone to two classes and I'm picking up on the new behaviors quickly with human's help. I've also started going to herding lessons every week and my instructor says I make progress every time. Herding is my favorite so human said it's worth the three hour round trip drive.

A couple weeks ago I went out to a ranch where our obedience trainer tested my drive to see if I might make a good protection dog. I got to play lots of tug which wasn't new to me since I play that with my human. I also got to try some news things like the A-frame, tunnel, and teeter to test my nerves. Our trainer put me on a table and I did some tug work up there which was fun once I was sure I wasn't going to fall!

Human and I work on obedience and/or tug almost everyday and she says my focus and drive are improving all the time. We might try out a foundations of agility class this summer which sounds like a lot of fun. I love going new places and trying new things!

I still go all kinds of fun places with my human like the park, river, snow, beach, trails, and various cities. Today we went to PetSmart so she could weigh me. I came in at just a tiny bit over 70lbs and human says I'm in perfect condition. She also measured my height to be about 24 inches.

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ A couple weeks ago, just after Christmas, my human told me we were going on a trip in the car back to my home state of Washington. I love car rides and going places so even though I didn't remember WA very clearly, I was excited to be going back.

It was a long trip because we drove without stopping for the night but I slept most of the way. Fenrir rode in the back and human and I shared the backseat. She says I like to cuddle but I was just using her lap as a pillow to get more comfortable.

When we finally arrived, Fenrir and I had a blast running around. There was even a pond for me to splash in. Only downside was when Fenrir found a sick raccoon. Human said it might have rabies or distemper because it wasn't running away from us but luckily it didn't bite us and human put us inside so we'd be safe. The humans tried to call AC and Fish & Game but they were closed because it was New Year's Eve so they had to put him down themselves.

After a couple days we drove to the next house about an hour away and stayed there for a while. I slept in the first bed I ever slept in again and revisited the beach I went to as a little puppy. I also saw my cousins Alex the Golden Retriever and Maggie the Beagle again. Alex didn't think much of me because he's pretty old and uninterested in my puppy antics but Maggie and I had a blast playing together.

I visited a couple lakes but it was too cold for swimming. Human said we'll go back in the summer so I can swim, go for boat rides, and see Maggie again! I also got to ride a ferry to and from Seattle. I stood on the deck and watched the water fly by! And walked through Pike Place Market and was told what a handsome boy I am by some of the people there.

Humans also visited my relatives the wolves in a wolf haven but I wasn't allowed in. I waited for them in the car and got to hear the wolves when they started howling. When humans came back to the car I howled for them so show them I can do anything those wolfies can!

On the drive back home we stopped at a hotel for the night and I got my own bed to sleep on! And I got to check out some of the rest stops on a long line (human was worried I might be dumb enough to run onto the freeway, as if!) and smell lots of new sniffs.

I had tons of fun and hope we go back soon! I much prefer cool, rainy WA to hot, dry CA. Human didn't tell me we'd be living in the desert when she picked me up from the breeder!

One last thing! Human told me I'm Dog of the Day today which is pretty exciting. Thanks, Dogster!

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ It doesn't rain much here and hasn't in some time until today. Human took me to the park and thanks to the rain it was nice and empty. We walked around and I chased the ducks and took a couple dips in their pond. Then we played fetch with pine cones!

Human and I also worked on my recall. Every time I came back I got to chase and tug my leather bite rag! It might be my new favorite toy but human only lets me play with it as an obedience reward.

I didn't want to leave the park but we'd been there for about 90 minutes and human was cold and wet so we drove home. I asked human to pick me up and put me on the bed but she said no because I was wet. So I had to take matters into my own paws and discovered I'm big enough to jump onto the bed myself now!

After sitting on the bed for about half an hour I decided we needed to go out again. So human took me for an off lead walk for almost another hour and I was still zooming around by the time she wanted to leave! She says rain must supercharge me and give me crazy amounts of energy.

Human ended up soaking wet again and when we got home I put myself right back on the bed and got all her blankets nice and wet and dirty. Hey, what's a best friend for right?]]></content:encoded>

Since my initial herding instinct assessment I've had three lessons and have been improving all the time. Yesterday my human led the goats and I moved behind them and kept them following her. The instructor stayed behind me and corrected me if I went the wrong way. She said I did a great job and didn't need many corrections though! Human is hoping I'll be ready for some low level trials soon.

We're also still working on obedience of course and human said my focus is getting much better. I've started getting my tugs as an obedience reward sometimes instead of food now that I'm done teething.

Human is hoping to get me involved in tracking and agility as well when she has the time! And since I've become such a water lover, she's hoping we can do a water sport like dock diving.

In my spare time I love to play with my buddy Booth. I can finally run as fast as he can and we love <a id="img3434113969" class=bodyTextRev target=site onClick="alert(\'Dogster Alert: You are about to visit an outside link that was submitted by this pet owner.\');" href="http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy213/bluemoose08/IMG_3216.jpg" onmouseover="var el = $j('#img3434113969');var c=String.fromCharCode;var q=c(34);var l=c(60);var r=c(62);var a=c(39);var p=c(43); el[0].onmouseover = null; var n=$j(document.createElement('div')); n.insertBefore(el); n.html(''.concat(l, 'img src=', a, 'http://i793.photobucket.com/albums/yy213', '/bluemoose08/IMG_3216.jpg', a, ' /', r, l, 'BR /', r));">tearing</a> around chasing each other. Humans try to take us lots of fun, new places so I'm always getting to see new things and have interesting experiences.

That's all for now pups. Onyx out!]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Today was a blast! Human loaded me up in the car early this morning and we drove for a couple hours. I slept most of the way because it was way too early to be awake!

When we got there, I smelled the same animals I met last week when the humans took me to an apple orchard. They were goats! I was super excited and eager to go check them out.

Human let someone else hook me to a long line and take me into the pen with the goats. At first I just wanted to sniff them and figure them out but when they started running, I realized I should be controlling where they went. I wasn't sure exactly how to do that but the instructor helped me out and within a few minutes I understood what I was supposed to do.

Human said I was herding and the instructor said I have high confidence, lots of instinct, good balance, and that I wasn't in prey drive around the sheep. All I know is it was lots of fun! Human said I did a great job and she was very proud of me- she even promised I'd get to herd again! She said she'll post a video of me herding on my page soon =D]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Well I finally had my first obedience class! Human said I did a good job of acting like I'd never been taught anything in my life. But there were so many interesting smells, other dogs, and PIGEONS! I just couldn't focus BOL I also got to meet <a href ="http://www.dogster.com/dogs/1195670">Ghost</a> after class!

Human said we're going to start our leash pressure work this week because OJ wants me to be on a collar for class instead of a harness. Human said she's going to teach me to give to pressure. She promised it will be easy so I'm not too worried. She also said we'll practice working under more distractions so hopefully I'll be able to focus better during class next time.

Booth and human's bf weren't able to go to class with us because bf has stomach flu. And unfortunately human got sick after we got home from class yesterday. <content:encoded><![CDATA[ I got to go to my first baseball game tonight! The local minor league team does a Bark in the Ballpark event every Wednesday home game so human, her bf, Booth, and I all went.

I didn't watch much of the game but I had a blast seeing all the people and some other doggies. And there were lots of interesting smells and sounds! There was lots of music and sound clips and very time the home team scored a run a train horn would go off! Luckily stuff like that doesn't bother me- human was so proud. I was very well behaved if I do say so myself!

Only bad part was human's bf got sick in the top of the 8th (he puked all over the bathroom) so we had to leave early. Human said he picked up a bug from his housemates but that I won't get it. I sure hope not- food is too delicious to waste like that!]]></content:encoded>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ Human's bf bought her a snazzy new camera so she's been making me model all day! Normally we only go for walks in the morning and evening but she made me go for TWO extra walks today out in the heat so she could photograph me for an hour. Humans are so silly.

Of course I'm a fantastic model so I look good with any camera but human is extra pleased with the pictures she took today. She said she's still learning to use the camera because it's so complicated and she's sure she'll be able to take even better pictures once she figures it out.

Yesterday we drove 90 minutes each way to go out to our first training class but OJ (the instructor) wasn't there! Turns out he forgot to tell us and some other people that class was cancelled for the holiday weekend. But Booth and I did some training with our humans anyway and human and Booth's owner talked to some other people who had showed up for an hour or so. They were very impressed when they watched me train with human. So even though we didn't have class, at least we made some friends!

Human said we'll try again next Saturday. I sure hope he's there- waking up at 6 am is not my cup of tea!]]></content:encoded>

My ...</description>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[ I figure it's about time I introduce myself and stop letting human do all the talking for me!

My name is Onyx and I'm a German Shepherd. My human told me my real name but it's so long and confusing! I was born in Washington state at a kennel with other German Shepherds. My sire and dam are working dogs and so are all my relatives. Human said I'm going to be a working dog too. She says I'm going to be a personal protection dog!

I lived with my mother and nine litter mates until I was eight weeks old. Then my human arrived and my breeder and her talked for a long time while I chased chickens around the yard. We went and said hi to my sire and dam and all my litter mates. Then human and my breeder talked some more and my breeder gave my human some papers. Then we hopped in the car and left the place of my birth.

We spent the next few days at human's grandparent's house where human introduced me to my new diet. I get to eat nothing but raw meat, bones, and organs! How lucky am I?! I also got to meet a couple of my doggy cousins- Maggie the Beagle and Alex the Golden Retriever. Then we got in the car again and drove all day. We stopped at a hotel for the night then drove all day the next day. Finally we got to my new home in California!

I got to meet my new doggy brother, Fenrir. He wasn't too impressed by me at first but lately I've been winning him over and getting him to play with me sometimes! I also met my kitty brother, Remulos. He likes to tease me by sitting just out of my reach then jumping up somewhere high when I try to catch him. Human won't let me bark at him either. It's not fair!

First thing I noticed about California is how HOT it is here. In my black coat, I try to avoid the sun. On walks I'll dash ahead to wait for human in the shade. Human has been taking me swimming to cool off. I've swum in a pool, river, and lake. We also spent a week at the beach but that water was too scary with all the waves. It was more fun to dig holes in the sand.

We go on a lot of walks in the mornings and evenings to avoid the worst of the heat. I've been to a lot of different parks already. My favorite is when we go to the park with my friend Booth the German Shepherd. He's seven months old so he still remembers what it was like to be my size. We love to play together and he tries to be gentle with me even though he's a lot bigger than I am!

Human takes me everywhere she can so I can experience lots of different things. Everywhere I go people love me! They say how cute and soft I am. A lot of them are surprised when human tells them I'm a GSD. I thought maybe I looked weird but human tells them my color is just a recessive gene. I don't know what that means (and neither do some of the people she talks to!) but sometimes people say I'm rare! I figured I must be special but human told me I'm not rare and to stop getting a big head, BOL!

Human and I have been working on my obedience and I can already sit, down, touch, stay, watch, spin left and right, and heel, although my heel is still a work in progress. I learned most of my commands in German since I'm a German dog. I love to work for raw hamburger or steak! Human and I went to observe a class with lots of other dogs doing obedience last week and she said Booth and I will be working there this Saturday. Anything that gets me more beef sounds like a good idea!

That's all for now pups. Onyx out!]]></content:encoded>
