Dog-ma went to the Texas K9 Team Classic put on by Micmac Teaching for Dogs (http://www.mtfdogs.com/) that showcased the talented handlers and dogs involved in security/protection training. I didn't go to this one because I tend to not play well with others yet, plus dog-ma was doing photography there and she only has so many paws (humans are so under appendiged).

Dog-ma says she thinks I'd like this training - that it would build my confidence and that I'd get to bite the bad guy :) but only when she says it's OK. She said all the humans were really nice and that I'm real smart like those dogs. I hope I get to go...

OK, it's March and I'm way behind on my dog-urnalism.

Had my first gigunda family Christmas (that's what dog-ma called it). The pre-holiday stuff was interesting what with colored paper crackling, a tree in the living room (humans are weird) with sparkly lights and shiny things dangling off... And did I mention the tree moved! The thing went round & round!

Lots of things called presents stacked under said moving tree, which dog-ma said "leave it" about so I didn't mess with them. On "the big day" mom let me meet everybody but then went to my room because it was too hectic and crowded... Fine with me, phew!

Sad though cause right before Christmas dog-ma's papa got sick and had to go to the people vet. He stayed there a long time. Dog-ma and granny would go visit and bring his scent home for me to smell. I missed him cause he gave me cookies and threw my hedgehog toy every morning. In February dog-ma stopped bringing papas scent home and granny was very sad. They said papa went to heaven. I miss him...

I guess that's all for now dog friends. Love your people with all you have!

I know, I know! I skipped July & August... but I was having too much fun to get on the computer.

I learned to swim finally! No more splashing in the wading pool! It was pretty scary but dog-ma lured me out into the swimmy part with my favorite squeaky toy. Now I love running around the pool and jumping in to make a big splash AND fetch my toys! It's VERY exciting :)

I also went to training once a week to learn how to behave better in public. That whole men & other dogs thing just makes me very nervous and then I puff all up and be as ferocious as I can (it works - they go away). But I did pretty good in training - even learned a little bit about agility. Dog-ma says maybe we'll go learn that some more when its cooler.

It's been soooo hot... 100-110 degrees all of July & August. I like staying in the house with granny & papa. They have "air-conditioning".

Well, that's all for now. I'm gonna put a new picture of me swimming up right now. See ya!

WOOF!

There's a HUGE bowl of water in the back yard - it makes bubbles and squirts water in the air every now and then. Dog-ma calls it "the pool" and I've been cautiously examining it every day... but I wasn't getting too close.

Last week the little kids were in the water, splashing and playing with their human toys. I was worried - I ran around and around barking & howling for them to GET OUT! Then dog-ma stepped off the edge into the water, but she only went in a little - I could see her toes. She kept calling me and tugging my leash a little so finally I put one paw in, then two - it felt really nice and cool. So I put in my back feet too. Dog-ma started making splashes with her feet and I chased the splashes, then noticed I was making splashes so I chased them too! It was fun! But I kept jumping out and running around the pool howling at the kids to GET OUT - I did however detour my laps by jumping in the shallow part to make splashes.

Dogma took me by these things she called stairs and got me down two of them, then she nudged me all the way in. Oh my goodness! I was all the way in and moved my legs really fast and got out real fast - whew! A close one. Now I'm all wet, but it feels really god (it's hot here).

Now I go splash in the shallow part every day and dog-ma puts me all the way in by the stairs at least twice each day. My paddling is getting very smooth even though I still get out quick. She says I'll be swimming like a champ in no time. I'm not sure what that means...

Well, gotta go it's time to make splashes again!

My dog-ma lost this thing she called a"job" due to something called the "economy" (that seems to be a VERY bad word). Anyway, her litter mom & pop invited her to come back to the big family den in a place called Texas.

We took a very long (but lots of fun) car ride with our good friend Kate, stayed in a couple of places they called "hotels", and made lots of doggie stops in different places. Wow, there were so many different things to sniff! When we got to Texas, a bunch of my dog-ma's littermates were there and everybody was happy and really nice to me, even though I was kinda scary looking in my muzzle. I sniffed and they talked real soft and gave me nice pats. Then I went in the new den and there was a brand new crate for me in a nice quiet part of the house. I took a long nap!

I've been here almost a month and I love my dog-ma's parents. I follow Ganny & Papa all over and they give me lots of treats. After my morning walk, I lay outside their bedroom door with my stuffed hedgehog and wait for them to wake up. When they come out they throw my toy and give me treats :) I have to be careful around Papa because he walks real slow and sometimes wobbles, so I try to not get too close and make him stumble.

I like Texas!

Well, I've been here in my "forever" home since April... and this time I'm starting to believe its forever. You see, I didn't stay that long anywhere else, except my first home and well, that didn't turn out so well. I got abandoned.

So, I have "trust" issues and my instinctive German Shepherd protectiveness makes me act out in an aggressive way when I feel afraid... if I bark really loud the scary thing goes away.

My new dog-ma has been teaching me new things though and I'm really smart and trying to pay attention. She's teaching me a word "friend" which seems to mean I'm not supposed to bark or lunge (or especially not bite). I have to wear this nasty thing called a muzzle though until I learn the word really well.

Time for a walk, so I gotta go... see y'all later!
