On May 18th, I was relieved of my ailments and made the trip to heaven. Although I was only 4, my epilepsy was causing me too many seizures. On that fateful day, mom gave me 150mg of valium and I still kept seizing. My doctor said it was time. There was no more medicine that would help.

Mom has my ashes so my sister Lulu will know I'm with her no matter what.

The End,

Well, mom got me a new brother. The only problem is.....it's a PIGLET. Literally, a piglet named Homer. He cleans up all the nuggets I leave after eating my treats. So that's good. Lulu likes him a lot. We've had Homer for a month now. At first he thought I was his mother since I'm always laying down. Hooves are not paws.

I guess I like him, as long as he stays away from my food while I'm trying to eat. At least mom has taught him tricks so he has to work for his food.

I'm down to 150 pounds and got the staples out. My days are up and down.

Take care everyone.

Love, Gus

She and mom counted, I got 68 staples where they removed the plate. I've been doing my cookie dance without fallling!!

Well, it was a hectic morning. Had 4 grand mals within an hour. Mom gave me 2 valium tabs and 2 phenobarbital tabs after the first one and two. But I had 2 more before mom could get the liquid valium up my you know what. But hey, that worked quick compared to my tablets. And it's been almost 2 months since my last episode. So I've done pretty good.

It's hot here, so much for beach weather. Mom made me lay down in an air conditioned room all day so I could rest. I feel much better now.

Surgeon was waiting for me to have my seizures so he could remove my plate from my leg. It never healed right due to my allergies. So it will be removed Tuesday. Just have to stay one night this time.

My birthday is coming up in September, and I want to be all better by then. Wish me luck.

Love,
Gus

Saw the neurologist and surgeon yesterday. YAY, I finally get to reduce one of my anticonvulsant drugs. I'm so excited. It's one that causes me to be sleepy.

Neurologist says not to worry too much about my weight loss, as I need to continue to lose some pounds to help out with my back legs.

Surgeon is still prolonging the removal of my TPLO plate as long as possible. Maybe will have it out in a month or so. My incision site is still leaking and my allergies are bad. I'm itching all the time.

Change antibiotics a few weeks ago and don't think they're working that good. Regular vet says if no improvement in my skin next week, we'll go back to the original antibiotic.

Gus

Last Saturday was a horrible day. I couldn't stand up on my own. When Mom or Dad picked me up, I couldn't walk at all and just kept falling. Saw my vet, changed antibiotics, and ordered more bloodwork, along with other tests.

Bloodwork was normal for me, considering all my medications. Still waiting for pancreatitis test, which will be back early next week.

This Thursday I'll be seeing my neurologist and surgeon. The surgeon says my plate can come out now due to the infection not clearing up, but it is not an optimal time. I'll get another x-ray to see where the healing bone is at. Not looking forward to more surgery.

I've been perky and bouncing around last couple of days, so hopefully I'm on the road to finally recovering.

Love,
Gus

Bad news......my body is rejecting the plate I got in my leg. Had to see the surgeon Thursday and he said my plate has to be removed.

My allergies are at their worst right now causing infection to attach to the metal.

X-rays show my bone is healing good. So once it fuses, bye-bye plate. Doctors have pumped me with antibiotics to buy some time for the bone tio heal.

First day of antibiotics made me feel good and I did the cookie dance. But basically I'm tired and having a hard time standing up on my own.

For all those smaller dogs out there, I want you to know how much medicine it takes for us bigger guys to get better. I am currently @ 170 pounds.
For my seizures I take 1&1/2 tabs of phenobarbital, 7 capsules of zonisamide, & 7ml of potassium bromide daily.
For my allergies I take 2,000mgs of cephalexin daily when I'm really broke out with blackening of my skin. I also get gold bond powder in my feet daily. Since my allergvies cause problems with healing, the orthopedic surgeon has increased my cephalexin to 4,000mgs daily for the next month.

Mom loves Costco. She gets great deals on my prescriptions!!!! I'm now averaging only a couple hundred dollars a month(excluding my surgery). Mom says I'm worth it.
I must go back to sleep now. One of my human brothers had his wisdom teeth pulled yesterday, so we're both fighting for the couch. I think I got him by 5 or 10 pounds :)

Gus

Well, I've lived up to my nickname of The 8th Wonder of the World. About 2 hours after receiving all my medicine, I decided to act like I do just before and just after grand mal seizures. So mom gave me the extra dosing my neurologist recommends.

I went to be just fine, but when Mom got up for work, she couldn't find me. Dad jumped up and found me downstairs. I was awake and still acting weird. So now I'm at the hospital, where I'm watched 24/7. My neurologist will come see me around 7:00 a.m., and I'll let everyone know what's going on with me.

Today I have no MOJO!! I didn't even get up for breakfast. Mom left for work early this morning and saw me on the couch licking my feet again. I still got my cookie and she left. I then crawled in to bed with Dad.

After Mom got home, Dad left and I took a nap with Mom until about 9:30.

I then had to nap in the bathroom up against the cool tiles.

Mom found out Dad didn't give me breakfast because I was too sleepy to eat.

It's now 1:30 in the afternoon and I'm ready to sleep on the cool tiles in the hallway.

I can't wait until I can stay awake more than an hour.

Well, it's been almost a week since my surgery. I'm feeling much better. I can get up and down the stairs better than before. I haven't fallen once since being home. Lulu's been a little jealous since I'm getting a lot of attention.

I didn't like living downstairs since my room is upstairs and has a balcony. I enjoy sitting on the balcony soaking up the sun (and barking at passersby). So mom is limiting me to 2 trips on the stairs daily. No running, no jumping!! I miss jumping on the bed. At least I can walk on to the couch.

My weight hasn't gone up as of yet. I'm hoping to stay under 170. I'll be back at the hospital next week to have my staples removed. I can't wait.

Thank you all for your support!!

Tomorrow I'm gearing up to undergo TPLO surgery on my left leg. My sister Lulu has this same surgery last year on both her legs.

With my epilepsy, mom is worried sick. All weekend I had trouble getting my hind end up to walk around. Since I'm now at 170 pounds and with all my medications, it's been difficult. Hopefully, the surgery will help without adding too many more pounds.

Mom and Dad are moving downstairs to keep me off the stairway during my recovery. I'm also stealing one of my teenage human brother's mattress - YAY!! A whole bed to myself!!

Please say a prayer for me tonight. Mom will let everyone know how I do.
