Quick Bio:
-purebred-dog rescue

Likes:
Cuddling

Pet-Peeves:
She doesn't like the airbrakes on the buses we pass on our walks

Favorite Toy:
Any stuffed animal makes her happy

Favorite Food:
Chicken Blue Buffalo Large Breed, or Milkbones. I avoid giving her people food, since she can easily clear the table if she wanted to!

Favorite Walk:
Anywhere where I am

Best Tricks:
The stinkeye; it's not really a trick, but when she is confused about something she squints one eye and raises her lip slightly. It's ridiculously cute!

Arrival Story:
After going through some emotional difficulties, I decided to adopt a dog in order to keep me company and to keep my spirits up while I was away at college. I browsed Petfinder for a few months and was rejected by numerous humane societies for other dogs I had applied to adopt; the fact that I was a college student probably was a negative. So I decided after the fourth or fifth "no" to check out the classified section on Petfinder, and that's where I found Bella. I wasn't looking for a particular breed but a personality that suited mine, which can be energetic at times but is usually rather calm, almost lazy. Bella (then named Jazmine) lived about four hours northeast of my hometown in a very small home with four other Danes and almost no backyard. I also found out later that she hadn't been vaccinated for anything (except for rabies) and hadn't been given any sort of heartworm or flea/tick preventive for a while, if at all. I drove north with my aunt to meet her, and while she was significantly larger than I had been told and had some medical problems (which I discovered later), her temperament was perfect. Within two days she learned her new name, and within hours she was attached to me. The first time I left the house without her she howled the entire time I was away. Her separation anxiety is still an issue, but we are working to calm her down when I am away at class. Having Bella at school with me helped with my severe anxiety and has also enabled me to meet people, which is normally very hard for me to do. Though her size can be a bit daunting at times (she weighs as much as I do!), she is very gentle and one of the sweetest dogs I've ever met, and I'm very grateful that she is with me.
