Arrival Story:
We had never had a dog before, but I had always wanted one as did my son. He was having a very difficult time adjusting to middle school, so I pulled him out and homeschooled him for the rest of the year. I thought it would be a good time for him to have a dog for a best friend. I saw a papillon for the first time at a shelter and fell in love. That dog was already spoken for(the shelter director kept it for her daughter), but I went home and researched the breed. I spoke to a few breeders and even met a phalene puppy, but I really wanted an adult dog that was already housetrained as we were inexperienced. I checked with several rescue groups online, but most of the dogs lived far away. I finally called Pap Haven and asked if they ever got any dogs closer to where we lived(Oregon at the time) and they said they had the perfect dog for us. Miguel had been owner surrendered in Texas due to a family member's illness and he had just been flown to Idaho. We did all the paperwork and home visit in record time and my son got days ahead in his studies so we could drive to get him. He fit right in with our family. Then within a month we found out we had to move to Atlanta,GA. I would never have adopted Miguel with a pending move, but he handled it all beautifully as he travels well. Now my son is back in public school and I'm in a big city with no friends, but thank goodness I have Miguel. He is my best friend and companion. I don't know how I would have survived this ordeal without him! My son says Miguel is the best therapy there is.

Dog Park Woes

Yesterday was a beautiful Day! When Mommy finally got her work done, she took me to the dog park as promised. It was sunny and full of great smells there. I was the only dog in the small dog section at first, so I got to smell and mark everything before hosting all the new dogs that entered. I love getting to be the host and smelling each dog first. A cute white schnauzer came in and was very sweet to me. We shared lots of sniffs and kisses. Then a Norwich Terrier came in. I got so excited, I decided to start a Zoomie Party. I started zipping into high gear in a circular pattern followed in hot pusuit by the terrier. I accidentally deflected off a human's legs and that unbeknownst to me altered my direction , not the terriers and as I completed my circle it turned out I was running like 100MPH in a the opposite direction of the terrier and we crashed head on, no air bags! OUCHHHH!!!!! I squeeled out in pain and terror thinking I was being attacked. My Mommy assured me and the other dogs it was an accident, but no more Zoomies for me that day. I gave the other dogs kisses and went home to rest. I'm okay now, but I better slow down next time to maybe 75MPH and watch where I'm going! ( I'd ask Mommy to get me a helmet, but that might not work too well.)
