: Pharaoh Hounds are gentlemanly members of the household. Their even-keeled attitude makes them playful without being rambunctious, vocal without being loud and affectionate without being clingy. Pharaoh Hounds get along very well with children, but they may be slightly reserved with strangers. Though loyal and steady, they are not considered good watchdogs.

: The Pharaoh Hound is very athletic and sociable. It will be happy in an apartment as long as it gets vigorous daily walks. Also, it should not be left alone all day: The Pharaoh Hound appreciates attention and togetherness.
Pharaoh Hounds can live as long as 15 years with relatively few genetic health problems. Grooming the Pharaoh Hound is very easy. Simply brush its glossy coat occasionally. Though its does have shedding seasons, the Pharaoh Hound is a clean canine.
Pharaoh Hounds History
: Pharaoh hounds are one of the oldest domesticated breeds, dating back to 3,000 B.C. Originating in ancient Egypt, Pharaoh Hounds were brought to the Mediterranean island of Malta by traders. There, they were carefully bred for several thousand years to hunt rabbits and other small game.
The Look of the Pharaoh Hounds
: Pharaoh Hounds have slender, medium-sized frames covered in glossy coats that range in color from red to tan. Their long, clean-cut heads have dark oval-shaped eyes, long erect ears and flesh-colored noses. When happy, they tend to blush--an effect made by their noses and ears turning red. They have lean necks, straight backs and medium-length tails that hang low. Overall, Pharaoh Hounds have a lithe, athletic and noble look.
