Pharaoh Hounds History
: Pharaoh hounds are one of the oldest domesticated breeds, dating back to 3,000 B.C. Originating in ancient Egypt, Pharaoh Hounds were brought to the Mediterranean island of Malta by traders. There, they were carefully bred for several thousand years to hunt rabbits and other small game.
The Look of the Pharaoh Hounds
: Pharaoh Hounds have slender, medium-sized frames covered in glossy coats that range in color from red to tan. Their long, clean-cut heads have dark oval-shaped eyes, long erect ears and flesh-colored noses. When happy, they tend to blush--an effect made by their noses and ears turning red. They have lean necks, straight backs and medium-length tails that hang low. Overall, Pharaoh Hounds have a lithe, athletic and noble look.
