What They’re Like to Live With
: Patterdale Terriers are friendly and inquisitive. Pals to everyone, they get along with all personality types. However, they are also supremely confident and energetic. Patterdale Terriers may look cute and cuddly, but in fact they have energy to burn. Keep them exercised and occupied with tasks, and they’ll be perfectly happy household pets.
Things You Should Know
: Patterdale Terriers need fresh air, long walks and room to run. Apartment living is probably not best for them. When walking your Patterdale Terrier, always remember the leash. These dogs are quick and curious.
Patterdale Terriers can live as long as 13 years with relatively few genetic health problems. Their coarse coats—whether smooth, broken or rough—need little in the way of maintenance. A good brushing every few weeks will keep them looking fine.
Patterdale Terrier History
: Patterdale Terriers were developed in England’s Lake District to catch rats, foxes and rabbits. For many years, the Patterdale was found mainly in northern England—a well-kept secret among the locals. Tough and determined, the Patterdale Terrier continues to be cherished as a hard worker and a true friend.
The Look of the Patterdale Terrier
: Patterdale Terriers have small, compact, sturdy frames covered in smooth, broken or rough coats that come in red, black, brown and black & tan. Their strong heads have tapered muzzles, keen dark eyes and V-shaped ears that fold forward. Their tails are carried high without curling over the back. Overall, Patterdale Terriers have a tough but friendly look.
