What They’re Like to Live With

:
Lakeland Terriers are energetic and determined canines. They love nothing more than to run, play, swim and dig outside. Lakeland Terriers also happen to be very intelligent, responding to firm but positive training.

Bred to be tireless workers, these little guys can be independent and stubborn, but they are usually eager to please. Lakeland Terriers are extremely bold, but they get along with other dogs. However, they should still be kept on a leash when in public. Overall, these dogs have a friendly and fun demeanor.

Things You Should Know

:
Lakeland Terriers can live as long as 15 years with relatively few genetic health problems. Their wiry coats need regular grooming and clipping to maintain their distinctive look. Also remember to trim their ears and feet.

Lakeland Terriers adapt very well to apartment living as long as they get a good, daily walk. If you can occasionally allow them some time to run free in a protected environment, they will definitely have a blast.

Lakeland Terrier History

:
Developed in England’s Lake District, the Lakeland Terrier was used to keep foxes away from sheep and hunt rats in the surrounding mountains. Once known as the Patterdale Terrier, this tireless worker was known for its incredible bravery and loyalty.

The Look of the Lakeland Terrier

:
Lakeland Terriers have small, square-built frames covered in bristly, wiry coats. Their long, narrow heads have small, dark eyes and V-shaped ears that fold forward. They have strong necks that slope down to deep chests, short backs and medium-length tails that point straight up. Their coats usually come in solid black, liver, blue, red and wheaten with the occasional “saddle” mark on the back.
