why wont my dog stop sniffing like crazy

i have a boxer/lab mix that is 9 weeks old. when i take her outside she knows that i want her to potty and she usually will pee but poop is almost out of the question because there is this one random spot in the yard where my concrete slab meets the grass that she RELENTLESSLY smells. she is unresponsive to calling and treats. i have to go pick her up and move her. then she goes right back to it and just stands there smelling and then she tries to eat any sticks rocks or anything else that may be sitting in that spot. its kind of annoying. does anyone know what might be up?

A 9 week old puppy is just a little baby. They are not capable of understanding what you want. You have to be very patient. Moving her away from the area is good. Just keep doing what you're doing by redirecting her and she will catch on. Keep teaching her the commands and she will learn them. Good Luck!

Have you gone to that spot without her to check it out? It could be the leftover smell of a zillion appealing things but it also might be something close to the surface...a trash wrapper, a critter who passed on, a bit of bone...
I'd go out there with a garbage bag and rake, shovel and dig around the surface. Then maybe take off a few inches of soil, clear any rocks and sticks. You could fill it in with mulch unless you think she might eat that too.
