why is my dog nipping and barking at my roommate all of a sudden?

My 6yr old pitbull Dutchess nipped at my roommate 2 days ago. I trained her myself to be loving and very friendly, she has never shown aggression toward adults or children before. Tonight when she came in the house Dutchess stared her down and started barking at her for no reason. This is just not like my dog!! I am at a loss for what to do, but I know alot about animals and think that maybe it has something to do with domination and the fact that the dog is a female and so is my roommate, however up until 2 days ago they were very close.

Any suggestions?

If this is a true case of aggression, you may want to approach a local behavioralist rather than trying to get help online. It's very hard to give good, sound advice on something like this without seeing the dog/person interaction. You don't want anyone making any assumptions and giving you the wrong advice. Wrong advice on something like this could be quite dangerous.
