Why is my dog all of a sudden chewing our new runner? He chewed the carpet once as a puppy after my partner left for wo

My partner recently left for a work trip when I purchased the runner and he chewed through it. How can I get him to stop?

Spray some bitter apple on the runner, keep him away from the runner (gate in another room or kennel him) Give him appropriate chew toys to keep him entertained like a stuffed Kong or stick his kibble in a treat dispensing toy so he has to work to get his food. Make sure he gets tons of exercise so he is too tired to chew your runner ;)
