Have you asked your friend what kind of food they were feeding him? Some dogs just don't like change. If it was table scraps, start slowly mixing in small portions of table scraps with dry dog food. Canned food may also work! If he was eating dog food, ask them what brand it was and hopefully he'll start eating it again. :)

If you just got him, he's probably scared and nervous. He doesn't know what's going on, so he's not quite comfortable making himself at home with you yet.
