Why does my spayed F, 18 mos.-old beagle/blue heeler mix, try to smother me on the bed?

I got Sasha when she was about 10 weeks old; bought her for $20 from a farmer's wife at a flea market. She was one of 6/litter. She's had top vet care, basic reward-based obedience training in a class and also privately--has the very best home a dog could want...no crate life, and a fenced dog yard, good food, toys, treats, and long leashed walks daily. Four other dogs in household: 4-yr.-old toy fox terrier and 3 chihuahuas 14, 13, and 12. All dogs tolerate each other and even sometimes play with each other. The B-BH is the 'baby' of the pack, of which the 13-yr.-old chihuahua is the leader. She housetrained well, and sleeps with me at night. She's a very good dog, but has this odd habit of laying her head across my neck and/or face, pressing down so I can't move. It's scary and annoying. I've never had a female dog; is this smothering a type of 'mothering'? I don't get it, and I don't like it; but, she's very insistent, and very strong...weighs about 45 lbs.

Your problem is, that the 13 yo Chihuahua is the Pack Leader.

That's supposed to be your job.
