why does my dog recently want to drink a lot of water? 8 years old sometimes pees at night before morning.

Simple answer might be hot weather.

Diabetes and Thyroid problems, are common when a dog gets older, an infection is also possible.

If he/she can't wait til morning to pee these are concerns. They can be resolved medically. See the Vet ASAP.

I would suggest a vet visit. Diabetes is the first thing that comes to my mind. Excessive drinking and urination are symptoms of diabetes.
Anything out of the norm should be recorded and discussed with your vet.

the vet can do a blood panel. This should show something if the dog has a medical problem. then parasites is the second thing I'd check.

My guess would also be diabetes. I found out my 11 year old yorkie was diabetic about 3 years ago. She had the same symptoms. She was also very unwilling to run around or play.
