Why does dogs pee on vehicle tries?

I don't think I can put it any clearer then that.
Why do dogs uranate (PEE) on vehicle tries?

It may have something to do with the smell of tires to them. They may be trying to cover up the smell or it attracts them to the tire.

I imagine the same reason they pee on any other upright object; it's a form of marking territory and it's instinctive.
