Why are my two dogs becoming so aggressive with each other?

This morning, my dogs Angel and Fly got into a serious fight over a piece of ice outside. They have been friends ever since I got Fly and now they are always grabbing each other at the neck. This morning was their first ever severe fight. Why are they starting to do this? I think Fly started it because I think she thinks she is better than Angel.

they are jousting for the number two position. Dog packs have a hierarchy, that's that. Pack leader (that's you) and it runs down the ranks from there. When you have a number of dogs, it's actually easier than just two. You are right when you say one dog thinks she is better than the other, she thinks she has a "right" of first choice on EVERYTHING, here Spot is the self appointed second in command, I watch her carefully and try to keep a balance. Females tend to fight more and be bloodier about it, spayed or not, it's instinct. In wild canines only the Alpha female is allowed to breed and raise pups. It is very important to establish dominance over the others.
My vet's tech once told me that females, especially hunting breed tend to be the most vicious fighters. I have seen my own get into it a couple of times. Drastic measures are needed or this will continue until one submits

So they're both girls? If so, maybe if there is another boy in the house, they're fighting over him so get him neutered. This is the only advice I can come up with.

Dieta

this is just my opinion, but at one time or another females will fight like that, fixed or not.
And the piece of ice was enough to make it happen, just a battle of who is going to get the ice
The only thing you can do is cut out the objects to fight over.
I don't think dogs think like that. One dog usually has top position in the home.
Fly sounds like she is top queen.

Um, looking at your page, seems to me we don't know the whole story just from what you've written here. When it says that Fly was from an accidental litter of border collies, is Angel her mother? It could be that Fly is finally coming into her maturity and beginning to challenge Angel's role. Just a thought.
