what would cause my german shepard to breath heavy and her stomache to move rapidly?

when she is outside for not even 10 minutes running she sounds like she has trouble breathing. The worst I've seen her was yesterday we went for a short walk and when we got home she was breathing very heavy and her stomache was moving very rapidly. Shewas like this for a few hours...Today she seems a bit better but her breathing will get heavy again at times and the rapid movement ofherstomache will start again....I can't get her into the vets until Friday and I am worried that she might have a heart condition......someone please help....

I would call the vet back and tell them it's an emergency and/or find another vet that will see you now!!!

Dieta

thanks for the details.
I would keep her at home til the appointment, no doubt about it.
If you see her collapse or not be aware of her surroundings, this is an emergency.
Many things could be causing her breathing issues. One would be over weight, not in condition, health- the heart , don't be nervous. Wait til you get to the vet and insist on testing. Heartworms can also invade the heart making it contract causing what seems breathing problems. I would relax and find out on Friday what is going on.
Like I said observe her and note anything serious or suspicious needs a walk in , emergency visit.
Please let us know what happens.
Provide clean cool water, a fan if needed, proper ventilation and food.
The doctor is the only sure way, they can x-ray the heart as well as do a echo gram of the heart.
If you need any ideals on diet there is a health section on dogster and many helpful dogster families

Sorry, just thought of this:

Also, has the weather been different recently? German Shepherds, with their double coats, get hot very easily. If it's been more humid or hot than usual, this might be part of it.

If there's no apparent reason, by all means, bring her to the vet!
