My nephew had a Maltese and I believe they are generally less than 5 pounds. My sister had a Westie and I have a Volpino Italiano which is incredibly similar to an American Eskimo and on all breeds, the ears usually stick up straighter than what is shown in the picture of your dog. It could be a terrier, as there are many kinds of terriers, Westie being one. With there being so many breeds and you not knowing the background, it could be difficult to ever know exactly what your little guy is. Either way, he is a cutie and is all yours to enjoy!
