what is the life expectancy of a cocker spaniel?

My cocker spaniel is 13 years old and he has not had anything to eat in approximately 3 days. He seems to keep coughing up yellow fluid. I cannot even get my dog to go outside. All he wants to do is sleep.

Yes, please do take him to the vet asap.

Your dog is clearly suffering. He may have something that is easily treatable, but you won't know unless you take him to the vet.

Even if he does have something quite serious and this is his time to leave, you owe it to him as his owner to make sure his exit is as comfortable and painless as possible.

The yellow fluid is more than likely bile from lack of contents in the stomach, which makes sense if he hasn't been eating anything.

Try cooking him plain, unsalted, unseasoned baked chicken breast and white rice. Even if you have to try feeding him by hand, that will at least give him some strength and get some nutrients in to his system.

Good luck...

We agree with the other posters: Please take your baby to the vet. He has given you 13 wonderful years and this could be something really simple that requires medication. The yellow fluid is most likely from lack of eating, the only way you are going to know and be able to help him is a trip to the vet. Good Luck!!

Dagwood

Life span is 12 to 15 years. dogtime.com
Cockers are generally healthy, but, like all breeds of dogs, they're prone to certain conditions and diseases.
Dagwood went through vomiting up yellow fluid and when we took him to the vet they told us to feed him chicken (no fat) and white rice. It cleared up in a couple of days.
