What is the knot on my shitzus belly?
I recently adopted lily and I noticed on her belly, right under her ribcage is a knot. its not hard, you can push on it- but it comes back out. Someone told me it was her belly button?? That just don't sound right to me. Does anyone have a clue?? Also is it normal for her not to bark?? We have had her for about a mo now and she don't bark. She is very well behaved and listens well. Potty training is going good too!! Should I take her to the vet?

It's a belly button. Dogs have belly buttons because as puppies they have umbilical cords.
As for not barking, I am not certain, though my feel is that it's nothing to worry about.

You should definitely take her to the vet. I had a German Shepard rottie cross and she had the same thing. I was told it was a belly button but when I took her to the vet it turned out to be a hernia. It might be nothing but you should go get her checked out just to be safe!

I agree with the previous member about the knot. I would take your dog to the vet just to make sure that it is not a hernia. As for the barking, my previous shih tzu never barked until she was about a year old and had been spayed. Don't know why. Chloe' is ten weeks old and she barks all the time.

I have also seen the knot be a hernia. And agree that this sounds like somethign you want to check out with the vet.
