What do you do about escape artists???

I have a new dog who I think is 3 and I believe she might be coming into heat. We had her in the heat pen but she has escaped at least 3 times...I am going to go in and get her spayed as fast as possible but what can I do now??? She has chewed through a 2x4 that was one wall of the pen, she has ripped the fence, she has made holes in the fence...what can I do now??? She is currently on a chain attached to the back of our dog trailer. Help!

You can hope that no male gets lose or comes onto your property while she's chained up to the back of the trailer and makes you puppies is what you can do now!

Dogs will do ANYTHING to breed, and some are even more determined than others. You simply need to get her fixed if she's not important to your racing program, and/or build a new enclosure ASAP that she can't get out of, but also won't hurt herself on trying. Have fun!

Keep her in the house and keep a close, close, close eye on her. And put some panties on or something too.
Good luck.

Spaying her as soon as possible is the best thing, and you already decided to go for it. Now, what to do meanwhile? Keep her indoors in a room that no male has access to. You can buy shorts for her and that will help her avoid getting pregnant in case she escapes again. I think the pen will just make her anxious, while a room in your house that is clear ( no wires on the floor or stuff she can destroy) with enough space to walk around will keep her safe and a little more relaxed that a pen. Give her a chewing toy or rawhide to keep her anxiety under control. Good luck with the spaying.

Dog can't escape from a crate. If you think she is going into heat, then keep her confined to a smaller area. Put chicken wire under fence line to a depth of 1 foot, run a wire from post to post and cover it with a pvc pole (rolls and won't let the dog get out over the top). If she's coming into heat, you can't spay her until she is through her heat because it will screw up her hormones and she will perpetually be acting like she has pups. You can keep her on the wire for now and take her off 3 times a day and walk her, run her, take her places. You will have to repair the fence by putting up better. Obedience won't help much in this scenario.
