First off, this is a very basic question. If you intend to breed your female, be warned, there are more complicated aspects of breeding that you must be aware of and know how to handle. This requires not only quite a bit of research (at least two year's worth of it), but plenty of time learning from an experienced and reputable mentor as well.
Breeding has many ethics involved, and I happen to have a website about these ethics for educational purposes:
cookiemiller.tripod.com

Here's an article that includes the info you are looking for on heat cycles:
dogs.lovetoknow.com

The article does not go into much detail however.

If you don't know the answer to this question, then you need to do more homework before you breed.

Breeding is more than cute little babies.
If you don't know the answer you really shouldn't be breeding. Sorry I am not trying to be mean but we have already too many dogs in the world who are in shelters.

I agree with the others but to answer your question I know of bitches who "stood" at 8 days & bitches that "stood" at day 28...It varies from dog to dog & the only way to know for sure is to have progesterone testing done at least 3 days a week starting at the end of the first week...This would entail finding a vet who has a lab who does progesterone testing & having blood drawn & sent off to the lab to find out when she is fertile...It is time consuming & costly.
If you are thinking of breeding your bitch please read this over first...Substitute Doxie for Lab...It's all the same.
