The Sensation Harness;
this has worked great for a muscle bound girl named Bridget.
Measure her and order one. Takes the dog about 15-20 minutes to figure out they can't pull. Works great

The problem with those front-clip harnesses is that they do not teach a dog that they are not allowed to pull, just prevents them from doing it. It's a crutch to avoid actually training a dog.

Invest in a high-quality, properly fitted Martingale collar. Start walking, and as soon as the leash tightens, turn on a dime and start running in the other direction. This is often easier if you loop the leash around your waist.

Try the Easy Walk Harness.. it is unique because the leash attactches on the front-chest and it prevents pulling instantly. I use it with both my dogs who are big pullers and it has been wonderful to use. I suggest it to anyone who doesn't have control when their dogs misbehave on walks. Here is the link to the website:

Good luck and we hope you try the Easy Walk!

Zack

Zack was a "super puller" for a while too. I just used his regular collar and leash. When he started pulling, I would turn around and walk the opposite direction. Once he started to follow me, I would praise him and then we'd continue on the original path. Zack hates to walk past the same thing twice, so it only took him about 10 minutes to figure out that if he pulled all we did was walk in circles. Sometimes he forgets and we have to practice again, but generally he now walks without pulling.

I also have to let him run in the yard for at least a few minutes before we go on our walk. Once he gets some of that initial energy burned off, he behaves a lot better when we are walking.

Good Luck!

Oh yes, the pull!! This one is a tough one to break with a high energy dog. I have found using a Gentle Leader helps a lot. It sits on the face so they don't have the power to pull forward. When they are on a harness they are using all their chest strength to pull forward... this is the worst possible spot to have them pull from because it is the strongest. You could also try using an Illusion Collar (www.cesarsway.com). This one sits right behind the ears so they again have little power to pull. Also make sure you don't let her out of the house until she is sitting and calm. She will learn she has to be calm to go for a walk. Once I started using the Gentle Leader and made my weim sit and be calm, I have seen vast improvement. I can actually now walk 2 dogs at once!! :)
