The best way for two dogs to get along is to buy a young pup of the opposite gender. Then your dog will not feel threatened and can act like a parent to the new pup. If you bring in a fully grown rescue, your elder statesman may end up unhappy as a result. Or, take him to an akc registered breeder and let HIM (your dog!) pick the new puppy himself from the litter! ^_^
