Tomorrow I am going to adopt a GSD pup. How can I find the puppy is healthy?

My friend's bitch has given birth to 5 puppies. I am planning to adopt one. They are 45 days old and not vaccinated yet. In the pics, they look pretty healthy however anything in particular I should check. Both mom and dad are pure bred and properly vaccinated.

Unless your friend is a true breeder I doubt the parents have been tested for hip dysplasia or DM. These are 2 major health issues for gsds.
Ask if the pups have been dewormed. Make sure they have their first shots & have already been checked by a vet.
Check to make sure the eyes are clear..does the puppy follow your hand if you move it in front of his face. Breath should be fresh. Make sure there is no flinching/yelping if you do a firm..not hard..pat down each side of the body. No kinks in tail. No bowing of legs. Take the puppy to your vet as soon as you get him for an independent exam.
I agree this is too soon to bring him home yet..wait until he is 8 weeks old...that is only 11 more days, but it makes a huge difference.

I also meant to say that I'm hoping you're not planning on bringing the pup home tomorrow. 6 weeks is far too young yet and in most places, it isnt even legal to let a pup go until 8 weeks of age. Those extra weeks are crucial for socialization within the litter. Placing a deposit is ok of course, but insist on having the pups stay with mom for a few more weeks and make sure they get de-wormed and vaccinated

I doubt if there's much difference between the individual puppies health.

DON'T take any Puppy away from it's Mother, before it's TWELVE (12) WEEKS OLD ! ! !

Pick the one you like best, and YOU take it do the vet right now, get it checked and inoculated, and MARK IT where you will be able to recognize it. Then return it to it's Mother/Pack for the remainder of the 12 weeks.

DON'T count on someone else to get the Puppies shots done, YOU make sure that YOUR dog is ok.

Good advice you've gotten.
Just wanted to add that from what I've read, genetic disease (hip dysplacia, DM, etc)usually doesn't show up until several years later. That's why the parents should be tested for genetic disease before being bred. General practitioner vets do not test for genetic disease.
