these are my dream dogs- bernese mountain dog & bull terrier! can they live together in peace?

i love bull terriers so does my mom. is the female or male more dominant i know they are an independant breed and some can be other animal aggressive if not raised right. but i along with my mom and dad (if i am still living with them) are willing to take on the challenge. my dad also loves bernese mountain dogs, big, but oh so loveable! also with them, is the female or male more dominant? i just don't know if i should get them both as pups or at seperate ages, because i want them to live together in harmony and want them to be friends and i don't want them to fight. i would like to get both males if at all possible, but male and female will work too. ANY INFO ON ANY OF THESE BREEDS AND ADVICE ON OWNING BOTH OF THESE DOGS, WILL BE APPRECIATED!

It does NOT matter on breed.
Sure, some breeds are labeled more animal aggressive than others, but it totally depends on the individual dog.
As for the dominance, that depends on the individual even more. NO ONE can predict if a dog of a certain breed or gender will be more dominant than another.
I've always heard that you can't have two males/females, but I know a lot of people who have multiple dogs of same gender and they get along just fine. My friend has 3 un-neutered males dogs and they never have a problem.
Since you want these dogs to get along, I suggest getting them from a shelter as adults, one at a time, so you can pick which one with which personality you want, and that they would get along. You could also, get them together as puppies so they would MOST LIKELY get along, but they would be VERY attached to each other. Its also not recommended to get two pups at the same time.
There isn't enough space to write everything, so you can p-mail me if you want.
Good luck!

Yup, they can certainly live in peace, as long as they're both well socialized to other dogs! I would recommend a male puppy and female adult - neutered and spayed, of course - because most females have a mothering instinct that makes them somewhat bossy (I guess if you had 12 babies, you'd have to have a bossy personality to keep them all in line!). Male puppies tend to take bossing pretty well from older females. Two females could be harder to integrate (though I have a friend in England who has a pack of five female dogs on her farm). Two males can get along fine, as long as they have compatible temperaments.

So, perhaps rescue a female bull terrier who's around two years old, and give her a few months to settle in, learn the rules, and feel comfortable in her new furever home. Once she's reliably well behaved (potty-trained, staying off furniture unless invited, sitting, etc.), then look for a Bernese puppy for her to bond with. Make sure they meet on neutral territory first. GL!

I don't know much about either breed. But, I do know that in each litter there is different personality and traits in each pup.
Have a breeder that is experienced pick out your pups. They can do some early testing and know which ones are dominant leaders in the litter.
Do lots of reading on each breed.
Make sure you pick pups according to your personality. It sounds like you need a dog that is very laid back.
Also when they are young always socialize the dogs to people and other dogs that is the only sure way of making sure you have done your part in raising them.
Neuter and spay all the dogs you get. Depending on your individual personalities males can fight and vise versa. one male one female. female and female.
