Reddish bump on surface of skin - allergies? Insect bite?

I was playing with my 3 year old Siberian Husky earlier and he rolled onto his back for a belly rub, only for me to find a quarter-sized diameter bump-thing on the surface of his skin. One of those "It wasn't there yesterday!" sort of things. It's located in the brisket/rib area, just off center and it's only on the surface of the skin - if I lift up on the loose skin, there's nothing to be felt underneath. It's mostly flat, only raised slightly and not at all like a mass or cyst.

Here's a picture at rest: i55.tinypic.com

And this is after lifting up the skin a bit: i56.tinypic.com

As you can see, the fur appears to be missing around the area. Could this be an allergic reaction to something? Insect bite? Embedded thorn? Irritation from scratching? I live in the desert and we have had really dry weather which has been giving the dogs dry skin recently...want to get some insight on whether it warrants a vet visit or not... Thank you in advance.

From your pictures it looks pretty large to be an insect bite; unless maybe it was a spider. I also wouldn't think it would be allergies if he only has the one bump and none anywhere else. Is he really scratching at it or itching anywhere else? Inspect him closely. He may have pulled the fur out himself or through scratching causing it to be a bald area. I almost wonder if it could be an embedded tick or foxtail seed? From the redness, size, and scaly look it has, I would take him to the vet. They may need to cut it open to see what it is. Just my thoughts; hope this helps! Good luck at getting it down.

is it hard or soft I need to picture a little back it is to close for me to tell what it is. I was thinking it was the belly button sometimes they have herniated belly button, it could be a cyst in that case you can lance it be brave of heart if you do this it can bleed and with a liltte pressure it will stop or it could be something else that something else I don't know don't want to guess on that and worry you. Take your dog to the vet, the vet will be able to tell you what it is and be able to do what is necessary.

GOOD LUCK
