Plott Hound happy? We have (for two weeks, now) a rescue (fixed) male Plott Hound the vet thinks is 5 years old

He's very shy around people though he quickly warmed to my wife and I and gets along with our three other rescued dogs (all females). Because we fear he can jump our fence, we have him in a 10X10X6' enclosure. He gets two walks a day and comes in the house each night with the rest of us. Every weeklend he gets a 10-mile hike in the mounaints (on a leash). Is this a happy life for a Plott Hound? We love him to death and he seems content -- but I don't think this is their usual lifestyle. He has had no chance to run free since we fear he will not come back. We live in a house in a city but have two acres, perhaps a half acre fenced where the three other dogs are free during the day -- they can't jump it but I don't think it would slow "Jake" down. Any thoughts?

He sounds like a happy dog. Greyhounds make great city pets, I don't see why a Plott Hound would be any different.

Two walks and a hike in the mountains should be plenty of exercise and if he is like a lot of other dogs, he will slow down a litte as he ages. My 5 year old husky, a high energy breed is very laid back.

Enjoy your hound, he is lucky to have you.
