If you are not fine with giving the dogs shots, then stay will the pills. I hope this is what you are trying to ask.

The vet can probably tell you which option is best for your dog. If the pills will keep his diabetes under control just fine then there is no reason to switch to shots. If the pills are not doing the best job however it may be time to consider switching to injections.

I would try the pills first and see how that goes. Just make sure to carefully monitor his blood glucose levels, you should also be keeping a glucose level log so that you can show the vet on his next visit.
