On TV, the Dog Whisperer said giving bananas to a dog stops them from eating their feces. Is this true?

I'm not sure. Cesar Millan probably knows best, though. Also try pineapple, canned pumpkin, and more!

Well, not necessarily true. What Cesar said is that sometimes coprophagy is caused by a vitamin deficiency, and bananas are rich in vitamins. There could be other reasons for coprophagy, such as wolfing down food (the stomach isn't primed and thus doesn't digest the food, and it comes out the same as it was when it went in), a learned behavior from the mother, etc.

You also, along with making sure your dog isn't eating too fast, is making sure that your dog is getting every thing it needs in the dog food that you're feeding him. Try switching foods and see if he still does it. He may need some minerals or vitamins that the food he's eating now isn't providing.
Pineapple is another good fruit for the dog to eat because it isn't as appetizing to eat it the second time around.
But definately check with your vet.
That episode explained that the dog in that case had a deficiency that could be cleared up by adding bananas to her diet. Also, that dog was motivated by bananas to learn not to eat poop, because they were her favorite tasty treat.
If you're having trouble, have your vet run some tests to determine if your dog is having a deficiency in their diet, and then address that. At the same time, work on obedience training to get her to leave her poop (and anybody else's she eats) alone. Dogs eat poop for a reason, and you have to be a detective--find out why and then fix the glitch. :)
On Its Me or the Dog, Victoria Stillwell said to add Pineapple to the dogs food to deter them from their eating poop. It makes it taste bad.
