My puppy won't eat too much.
We just got a shorkie (shih tzu/yorkie) puppy this past weekend and she has just eaten a little bit every day. She is 9 weeks old and around 2 lbs. She probably takes in about a 1/4 cup daily with wet and dry food combined. Is this normal or should she be eating more? And how do I get her to eat more?

Hello!
I have a Yorkie/ Maltese mix! I know all about your concerns of your pup eating! I went through the same problems!
I even tried force feeding her!-
Honestly, it is perfectly normal. At first.... I just kept trying out different dog foods. She did not eat any of the natural dog foods. Getting her started on People food was a bad habit, because she will turn down her own dog food until she is really hungry. Right now- I have had her on the "Kibbles and Bits- Bistro Meals" And her weight has picked up. And she loves it, but I cannot watch her eat.. I pour the food, and walk away. She is a very nervous dog. She does way better in a peaceful environment without kids or other dogs.
I wouldn't worry too much. You will soon learn your pups habits and how to make her comfortable. Don't worry! It is perfectly normal for her to not eat much!! Especially as a pup. Just ALWAYS have food out. She will not eat all of it.

okay... this is NORMAL. A 1/4 cup is more than enough food for a 2-lb puppy. Some adult toy breeds must have their food measured in Tablespoons instead of cups because they eat so little!
This is why almost all the tiny dogs I see are overweight- people stuff them with food because the amount they actually need is so small.

Every dog will eat a different amount of food but I'd say it's normal for your Shorkie to eat that amount of food daily. If she's not skinny and you can't feel her ribs, then she's fine.
