My puppy cries when I leave him in the crate?
I've been crate training him since I got him at 8 weeks old. He sleeps there every night, and spends time there whenever I'm gone during the day. However, even now at almost 5 months old, every time I leave him in the crate he cries and howls for about 5 full minutes (I can hear him as I'm leaving) how do I get him to calm down and not cry every time I leave him? I'm moving to an apartment so I don't want people complaining that he's crying.

How long do you exercise him before you put him in his crate? Mine don't mind if they get a good bike ride before they go in their crates. This may be a case of an under exercised pup.
Do you make a huge deal of taking him out of the crate when you get home? If so, stop. He only comes out of the crate if he and you are calm. This could be the start of separation anxiety.
Another question: What do you give him to do while you are gone? There is a DVD I hear is highly recommended by various Dogsters I hold in high regard called "Crate Games" that could possibly help. He may only be bored and know that once you are gone, he will be bored until you get back.

I have the same problem! I would say to try these things. Whenevr he barks correct him and say No firmly but don't yell. You could also try buying a bottle of Bitter Apple spary (ask your vet about the spray) and spray directly to his mouth and firmly say No when he barks. I hope this helps :)
