First..IGNORE all this "alpha" crap, because that's what it is..crap! Second.. have you taken her for a vet check? Some aggression can be based on pain. Third...good advice from Diesel, Obi, & the other reply (sorry..i forgot who it was). Dealing with a dog who overreacts is not a simple matter of "retraining" the dog. If possible, hire a behaviourist, not a trainer, to come assess her, & you. They will develop a plan specifically for you. I have a "reactive" (god, i hate that word)95 pound gsd. It has been a long haul, using BAT, Look at That, Look at Me, quick direction changes, Click the Trigger, and avoiding triggers..but he is much better these days. Please post on the Behavior & Training Forum. We really need a lot more information before we can offer ANY concrete advice. Like..what does her body language look like? Is she fearful? Is it only on leash? Or off leash as well? Is she spayed? What is her history, if you know it? If you worry, do NOT take her back to the dog park.

I think this behavior certainly has to something with THE ALPHA factor. She somehow considers herself The Alpha, which is not a good sign. You need to re-train her and prove yourself as the master.

Little to nothing to do with "alpha" -- while basic obedience is a must for any dog, it is not going to magically resolve your dogs opinion of other dogs. She could be developing some leash reactivity. The best thing to do is start with some counter conditioning. I would post your question in the Behavior & Training Forum (under Community --> Forums) for more detail and responses.

First give her a treat the moment she notices another dog, before she has the chance to get defensive.

It's likely that you can't stop it, she's showing her Alpha FOR you. This behavior is because she wants to protect you from a supposed threat. Reasons are, that you have not "convinced" her that you're more Alpha than she. Things like training her to sit, heal, lay down, just anything that imposes YOUR will on her will help. But, probably not resolve the situation totally. You're stuck with a protective animal. Good Luck
