My dog is suffering from a severe ear infection for a year now.
My dog has been suffering with an ear infection for about a year now. She's seen 3 different vets and it wasn't until the third vet, when she was referred to a dermatology specialist. A deep ear flush was performed and antibiotics was given for several weeks. Ear culture detected 3 types of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Streptococcus. When one ear got better, the other got worse. She was on antibiotics for 2 months then was diagnosed with kidney disease. I've been told that certain antibiotics can have a negative affect on the kidneys and now I feel I'm running out of options. My problem is, her ears have filled up with fluid again, kidney disease is stable, she is suffering and whining and I'd like to schedule another ear flush however if she can't go on antibiotics bc of her kidneys, her ears will get worse again. What do I do? Has this happened to anyone else's beloved pet?

One thing to consider is allergies.
Since this has been going on for a year, it may be a food Allergy. Try switching foods.
My dog is more prone to ear infections if he is on a food that is heavy in corn.
Some dogs are allergic to certain things in dog food, some to specific meat, etc.
Trying a simpler food might help see if that's an issue. If you can go for a raw diet, that might help wonders too.
