My dog is itchy on the outside tips of her ears.
My GSD has been rubbing her head on any surface she can find. I know it's not mites or internal infection...I found tiny little bumps the size of a pen tip. These are located on the out side tips of the ear. No hair lose, or swelling. Just a few itchy pimple like things. Has anyone come across this before? I was thinking maybe ingrown hair? Or dry skin (but no flaky skin)? Really stumped looking for a suggestion on how to sooth the itch.

Its possible its a reaction to something - what kind of climate are you in? If its still temperate maybe she got something on them. Anything new in the house? Until you figure it out or take her to the vet you can give her Benadryl...1mg per lb of her weight. Dont use liquid as its too high in alcohol. You could also rub a little hydrocortisone cream on her ears. They sell products for dogs but I find them more expensive and its the same thing. Hope she feels better soon.

And, you know it's not mites how???? It certainly SOUNDS like some kind of bites, scarcoptic mange mites would be my first guess since the first place they show up is ear tips. The little bumps would be the bites.
IF she were mine I would be consulting a vet ASAP as those mites can spread rapidly, including onto you and your family.

If you want to try safe remedies before going to your vet look on what you are using to prevent flea and ticks, if you are not using any look carefully maybe you need one like frontline, or if you want you can call a pet store or a pharmacy I know there is one with good prices www.allvetmed.com are you giving him heartworm preventative every month?, what food are you giving him, make sure house and patio are free of ticks and fleas, they are the most common reason for basic skin problems
