I would guess this is similar to lifting your own fingernail up and having it come unattached a little (ouch!!). It should heal up on it's own, but watch for inflammation and infection. Keep the area cleaned out well so debris doesn't get caught up under the nail. It is also probably very sore, so try and limit your dog's activity for a few days. Hope this helps!
