Bailey

My dog has diarrhea for the past two days. My vet is away until Monday. He put her on Immodium 2mg twice daily. Diet?

She is 10 yrs old. Has chronic pancreatitis. Has not had any changes in her diet. Was at a kennel for ten days, showing signs of indigestion (flatulence++) 2 days later. Vet did not mention what to feed her, she is very hungry. Has food allergies(wheat, lamb) and is on low fat.

Even though her diet hasn't changed she has been under stress at the kennel. Pancreatitis can be very serious and this sounds like it could be a flareup. I would take her to the emergency vet today. By Monday she could be very ill.

Low fat Home cooked or raw. How about white meat chicken and some brown rice if you want to cook the food or just chicken if you are feeding raw? You can remove the skin and any visible fat.

I do think you may need to at least call the ER vet to make sure she is doing okay.

A bland diet of boiled skinless chicken and rice could settle her tummy until you can see the vet. I know when Deogie's colitis acts up, resulting in diarrhea we feed him this and he feels much better.
My Aunts JR also has pancreatitis and she feeds him smaller meals (5-6) throughout the day instead of 1 or 2. Smaller meals will help keep the pancreas calm. You might also want to discuss this with your vet as well and see if this might help Bailey.
Hope Bailey feels better soon. Pawmail me and let me know how she is doing.

I don't know anything about pancreatitis, but I do know that rice helps with diarhea. One of my dogs has a very sensitive stomache and when she gets diarhea I give her about a cup to a cup and a half of boiled rice. Ground ginger also works well for gas but it needs mixed with wet food or you could mix it with the rice. These are natural remedies, so its almost impossible to overdose, but if you do give her too much rice at a time, she can become constapated. Usually if you don't know what else to feed her, you can feed a basic diet, with one protien source (meat, soy, etc.) and one carbohydrate source (rice, potatoes, etc). This is only a temporary diet, though, it will not contain vitamins and minerals your dog needs long term. When my dog gets sick, I give her boiled chicken and rice.
