You don't have to worry, just because your dog can't hear doesn't mean you can't train him. Most dogs learn my visual cues anyway so what you want to do is focus on them.

Because your dog can't hear what you have to focus on what your hands and body language are telling her. For example, for teaching your dog to sit you can slowly put down your open hand. Use lures to make her do what you want and slowly make it so that she knows that she is doing good. To lure, use a piece of food and bring it up so that she has to sit. The following links provides good ways for you to lure train your dog into doing what you want: k9domain.web.officelive.com

Just never forget the reward and your body language. Rewards for your dog have to be designed for her too, make sure you don't only say Good Girl! (for obvious reasons), instead use a pat on the shoulders and a food treat.

Best of wishes!

Deaf dogs are more and more common.

One of the first things I learned about truely communicating with my dogs - is shut my mouth. And use my eyes and body to tell the dog what I want.

I envy you. I wish all owners could understand that dogs don't understand our words anyway. Having a deaf dog you know she can't understand words. It forces you to get her eyes on you and use signs and body language. You can have a great relationship with this dog and she can be very well trained!

Deafness can be passed to any puppies, so make sure to spay her. Not all owners are as dedicated as you are.

You can use hand signals. Have someone else hold the dog on leash as you use your hand to make the command motions with food. Once the puppy does the correct command then you open the hand and give the pup the food. One pet on the neck is good at same time. Work on only one learning session with one command. Repeat this for only 5 min. each day for say 4 days then move on to another trick/command the next week.
If you don't have anyone to hold the leash, then you can tie the pup to a post or fence as you teach him the trick/command. I would use diced cooked chicken breasts. Time and patience your dog can learn alot of hand signals once the command is taught.
I know I have seen some videos. Look on elitek9.com and caninetrainingsystems.com
or try typing on google sign language for dogs. I know I have seen some videos out there, they would be very helpful for you.

I have one that cant hear, I have been able to train her to do a few tricks. I had to use more hands on to get her to sit. I also would pound on the floor and the vibrations would cause her to look, of course you cant do this when she is far away. But i do make sure she is on a leash when she goes outside in the front yard since she cant hear. They can be trained dont give up.
