My boxer has an immune disorder. His immune system attacks his body giving him arthritic symptoms.

He becomes lethargic, depressed, in pain in his neck and hip joints. Usually this happens after a vaccination or taking his heartgard. Recently happened after he had welts, possibly from bug bites. The vet puts him on prednizone to supress his immune system. They don't seem to know the cause, it has been happening on and off since he was 3 months old...he's now 11 months. I have spent over $4,000. in vet bills. Anyone know anything about this type of immune disorder? Any cures?

I hope that helps! I know its specific to great danes, but they aren't the only breed that has vaccine reactions!

Is your vet pre-treating your dog before giving him vaccines. He should be if there is a possibility of allergic reaction. Also he should not need vaccines more than every three years after he is a couple of years old. The vaccines also, should not be given all at once to a dog with this type of problem. They should be spread out and several weeks apart. Once he is a little older he may not need vaccines. You can have a blood titer done which will tell you if your dog has immunities against the common diseases. If he does, he will not need vaccines. I had a Shih-tzu who developed auto immune hemolytic anemia. She was on the prednisone for several months, and then never had another vaccine in her life as my vet told me the vaccines could bring on the problem. She lived to be 17 1/2 years old. I just lost her about 6 weeks ago.

Are you sure it is immune disorder.
I see, that is alot of money, but I have never heard of this, I am sure it is possible.
I found this info. link
www.bellaonline.com
and I don't know if the spice ginger would help. But, thought I would mention they are using it for inflammation. I don't know if that would help. They are using it more in cancer human patients after chemo treatments for nausea. hope any of this helps.

Ginger

My dog had auto immune hyper thyroid and instead of dong the conventional drug route I used Australian Bush Flower Essences for immune problems, added the ABFE Boab for inherited tendencies (auto immune runs in the family of this dog. I added as well ABFE Waratah for attacking her own body (thyroid in this case) and in a couple of weeks she was more playful, slowly gained weight and eventually thyroid went down. Added 7 drops a day in the dogs water (of the ABFE mix) for two months and dog is still clear three years later :o)))
I would recommend the book "Animal Healing with Australian Bush Flower Essences" by Marie Matthews
pets.groups.yahoo.com
Google "Animal Healing with Australian Bush Flower Essences" ISBN: 9780958059015
AND if you buy a second book make it "Australian Bush Flower Healing" by Ian White as this book has some things in it's repertory that is not in the
above book and it is helpful to have around for people problems
