My 8 week old puppies butthole sticks out?

It looks like her butthole is sticking out, and she rubs her butt on the floor a lot. She doesn't seem in pain and she has no problem going to the bathroom. is that normal?

It depends.

It's normal for a dog's rectum to extend outward a tiny bit WHILE they are going potty. It appears as a pink ring around the entire rectum. But it's only a little bit and it does not continue to be seen at other times.

Dogs can have anal prolapse, which is a condition in which straining or genetic deformities can cause the lining of the anus to come outside of the body.

Your puppy is very young and I would make sure that anything that even seems abnormal is discussed with your vet.

Even if she is normal, it's NOT normal for a puppy or dog to rub themselves or scoot on the floor and it's often an indication that the dog has worms. So, a trip to the vet is in order, regardless of what you were told about her health and vet record when you got her.

If she were to have any kind of bowel issue going on, it's best to get her seen so better to be safe than sorry, especially with a puppy this young.

Jack's comment is probably spot on. It does sound alot like your pup may have worms (new puppies usually do). The little nasty worms tend to hand out around the anus which causes inflamation (the swollen butt hole) and itching.

Take your pup to the vet for a health check. The vet will worm your dog for you and prescribe follow up worming caps. Sometimes it takes a couple of cycles to get rid of the offending critters and inflamation..
