Some dogs get very depressed when separated from their owners. She may not eat for several days, bark and howl excessively, lay around, or even be so anxious that she can't stop pacing. They get very attached to their owners, which is why you shouldn't get a pet that you have no intention of keeping for its entire life (with the exception of fostering).
