My 1.5 year old Lab is terrible with recall. She will come for my husband 95% of the time but never for me!
What's worse is that when I tried to come up to her to pet her she runs away. This has proven to be a real issue as she has gotten out of the yard a few times and when we try to get her back in she thinks it's a game. It has taken me over and hour to get her in the house from the yard on occassion. I have been working with a 50 foot leash and treats but this method doesn't seem to be working so well. Any other suggestions?

Who is home most of the time? Dogs will pay attention to the person who mostly pays attention to them more. Dogs can feel your energy, so she may feel your energy and something may be bothering her.
Paw-mail me on lots of training tips. I have many training tips.
Have you ever heard of Cesar Millan? He is one of the best dog trainers. Check out his site for training tips and info: www.cesarsway.com
What does your husband do different than what you do to get her back inside? If he does something different then do what he does.
I get both of my dogs' in by shaking a treat bag and hollering their names. They know what's coming for them (a treat).

I know from experience that recall can be VERY hard to teach to some dogs. It takes a lot of time and even more patience. What is Lucy motivated by? Food? Toys? Cuddles? Find out what she really enjoys and practise her recall in a very low distraction (this means NO practising outside yet) environment. Get her attention, crouch down, say her name and then ask her to come. Try waving your hands towards you. If she comes, have party! Give her some treats, play tug, dance around with her and tell her what a good girl she is. If she doesn't, then you have to make yourself more interesting. Jump up and down, wave your arms around in the air, run around. When she comes, have a party. You need to teach her that it's really fun to come when you call her. Do this randomly throughout the day, and when she gets really good, GRADUALLY increase distractions. Here is a great website you can look at, not just for recall but for everything: r You can PM me for more info.

I had a similar problem when Journey was still with us.I went through a fairly sever bout of post partem depression and just really let EVERYTHING go.I got frustrated easily and pretty soon, Journey treated me like a non-entity.She wouldn't do a THING I said, but listened to my husband's every word.To overcome this I did a few, very simple things all while in the house.Leashed her and made her make every step I did, praising and treating when I got no resistance. When my husband was home, she was leashed and at my feet to show her that I was just as important as him in the home. Randomly call her to my side just to make her sit and be still. All of those things showed her that I was the boss too and that it was just as rewarding listening to me as it was listening to "daddy".
