Well, it depends. If you want a high energy dog, that loves excersise, a Lab, or any big dog. If you want a couch potato, maybe a smaller dog, like a Beagle, Chihuahua. But remember, little dogs, need excersise too. It really depends on what your lifestyle is. Do some research and check with you local animal shelter. Good luck!

First let me say welcome to Dogster, it's great having you here.
I would really suggest going to your local shelter and finding a new fur pal there. Many great dogs are waiting for loving homes, young and old. Take Missy with you, when you find a dog you might be interested in ask them for a room and allow the dogs to interact with each other. I volunteer at our shelter and they encourage people to do this, it's better to know if they will like each other right away. Also ask if you can walk them together, you need to know that you are able to walk and control two dogs.
Best of luck to you.

Only you know what type of dog will fit your family. Low energy, high energy? Long hair, short hair? Big dog, little dog? Purebred, mutt? There are many questions you need to ask yourself before making the big decision and I agree if you do get a rescue take your lab/cocker mix with you to help choose. Good Luck.

I don't have any breed recommendations.
Reason being, the breed is not the important factor when you choose a second dog. It is the individual dog and his temperament, as well as his energy level that you will want to look at.
If there are any specific breeds that you are interested in, a good place to start would be a local breed rescue. Rescues try to match you with a dog that will fit in with your family, your existing pets, and your lifestyle. They will discuss with you which of their dogs best fits your level of activity and experience, and which may get along best with Missy.
Matching dogs in terms of energy level is a good place to start. If Missy is laid back, a similarly laid back dog would be a good match, whereas a really hyper dog may just annoy her. If Missy is dominant, look for a submissive dog, maybe of the opposite gender, for best results.

In my opinion, you should think about the dog you have now. Look at your dogs personality, annoyances, temperment, and excercise level. You should get a new dog that compliments your dog now. You should be more concerned with a new dog getting along well with the dog you have now, rather than breed. Just my opinion! Good luck on finding another great dog!
