Is Pedipaws a good nail trimming tool for my small dog? He doesn't allow more than a very light brief second of filing.
I'm following all the directions that came with the tool a few weeks ago, and at this point my little dog even comes to me when he hears the buzzing sound because he knows there are treats to be had if he lets me very briefly touch his nails to the spinning file. However, he is very resistant to allowing sufficient time or pressure for me to do any real filing. We just can't seem to get to the next stage. Should I persist? Also, the dew claw is almost curled around to form a donut shape. Is the dew claw a good candidate for this procedure? Thanks so much!

I have the PediPaws. I say stick with it.
Though, I find the PediPaws to be pretty slow, but it's worth it because my dog doesn't struggle like with the clippers. Although, my GSD's nails are really long and I don't have the patience to spend an hour trimming each nail, so I'm going to have the groomer clip her nails one last time, then use the PediPaws regularily on her after that.
Keep it up. Perhaps try holding the paw not so tight if you are holding it tight. I was and it made my dog uncomfortable.
I think that the PediPaws is great to trim dewclaws, especially the ones that are curled. Try to use a clipper on those and you usually end up cutting into the quick.

If the nails are so long that they are curling into the shape of a "donut," I'd recommend cutting the nail prior to filing, with the Pedipaws device or any other filing tool. Otherwise it's going to take a VERY LONG time to file the nail down!
My experience with the Pedipaws device hasn't been positive. First of all, as Treader mentioned, it's too slow; and if you try to apply any kind of pressure with it, it slows down even more. Secondly, for large breed dogs, it's difficult to get the nail through the opening comfortably, and since their nails tend to be a bit more dense, the Pedipaws just isn't powerful enough. Thirdly, it is no quieter than a Dremel tool!
I personally prefer the Dremel, as it has greater power, making nail trimming fast and easy.
I do like the plastic cover feature of the Pedipaws, as it prevents humans from dremelling themselves (ouch!)! But the opening needs to be larger for large breed dogs, and it needs more power. Just my opinion.
