Is my 10 week old Australian Shepherd too small?
He's nearly 10 weeks old and weighs in at 7.5 pounds. His activity level and everything else appears normal, including appetite. I've been told by a couple of people now that he seems small, and it's got me to worrying.

Maybe he's a Mini Australian Shepherd.

It does seem small for the breed, Maggie was probably at least twice that, BUT... if he has a clean bill of health from your vet and he seems normal in every other way, I would try to stop worrying about his growth. Even if he is not an official Mini Aussie, normal Aussies can vary a lot in size, from about 30 lbs full grown to as much as 60 or 70, and maybe he is just going to be at the lower end of the spectrum. There are also dogs in every breed that just end up smaller than usual, it's just part of normal genetic variability.

My Mini Aussie was over 8 pounds at 8 weeks and is now 15 pounds at 12 weeks. So maybe you ended up getting a mini? I'm sure every dog grows at different rates. I also believe that the amount and type of food they eat, and the amount of mothers milk effects the starting weight, but not the end weight. I agree with the above, as long as he looks and acts healthy you are all good.
