Is it okay to keep a 3-month old Neapolitan Mastiff outside during winter?

I live in Central Europe, so the temperature in winter is not extremely cold, but not warm either. I would like to keep the puppy outside, at least during the day... But I've heard that dogs without undercoat should not be left outside during winter. My dog has outside a cage that's placed in a warm corner, but I'm not sure if it's warm enough....

How safe is it to keep her outside? What can I do to make it safer?

I would not keep a 3 month old puppy outdoors for extended periods of time by itself regardless of its coat or the weather. But specifically a Neo with a short coat, no.

Ditto to Kolbe's answer. A 3 month old puppy should not be left outside at all, don't care what time of year it is or if he has a kennel.

Dieta

I would not unless it is draft free and with a heat lamp.
Neo's do not have an undercoat what so ever.
Keep her inside please.

I wouldn't keep her outside for a few reasons.
A) Outside is not safe. Someone could steal her or give her poison or something.
B) Mastiff puppies need lots of sleep (it's part of growing so big). Being outside with car doors slamming, squirrels running by, people, etc, is not a peaceful environment and makes it hard for them to sleep. This can be very stressful for a pup.
C) Left to their own devices like this, puppies can develop bad habits. Barking at passersby, digging, chewing, etc.
Being crated is not only the safest place, it's also the best as far as training purposes goes, and for the emotional well-being of your pup.

I agree, you shouldn't leave your dog outside. It isn't safe whatsoever. Crate training would be better, it isn't that hard to crate train if you start early.. But you should only leave them in there up to 8 hours MAX!. If you can't do that, find a dog sitter.. I have three dogs, plus i dog sit. Or do you have family that'll keep her till you get home? Good Luck!

Agree... three months is too young, it will likely affect his growth since all his reserves will be needed to keep him warm instead of allowing him to develop properly. Not to mention how boring it would be for the little pup!

too young. I don't think he should have been outside in the summer either though.
Perhaps it was a bad time for you to get a puppy. They are a lot of work.
Outside he has no guidance and no companianship.
You are asking for trouble if this is how you want to raise him.
Unless you want an overprotective gard dog that hates his life.

Puppies have a problem regulating their temps. An older dog would do ok outside but not a puppy.

Lola and Sophia

It would be best not to leave a puppy outside unsupervised. This breed can live outside in the right conditions...appropriate exercise, shelter, food and water! But as a puppy I would not recommend it...this breed needs much socialization while growing up. They love to be with there family and need constant leadership from the owner! I have a 3 month old Neo and a 4 yr. old one...I also have a large fenced in yard...but would never leave her out in it, without supervision! Puppies get into everything... digging, eating anything they can find, rocks, dirt, sticks, debris in the yard. Much to hazardous for a young pup. So my advise...keep her with you and your family, not living out side!
And as far as a cage for protection from the elements...not a good idea. You really need an appropriate insulated dog house, to protect her from the elements...hope this helps! Good Luck.
P.S. Also get a good book on this breed to learn much more and to help you answer questions you might have!
