Yes, a dog could die from an untreated infection. An abscess is a wound that becomes infected and creates a pocket of fluid. Like any infection, if it goes untreated it will worsen and become very serious or fatal. If your dog really has an abscess--and it's impossible for us to diagnose your dog because this is the Internet and we are not vets--she needs a vet to drain and dress it and she needs antibiotics. Regardless, if that were on your chin, wouldn't you seek medical attention? It would be painful and you would feel ill. Clearly you love her, and it is an owner's responsibility to seek treatment for their pets when the pets are ill. Please call your vet.
